In an unusual turn of events, it seems like the planets have conspired in Marathon‘s favor. With the Closed Beta Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) being lifted, an unexpected bug on Xbox platforms enabled some players to preview the game’s tutorial a day before its scheduled release. Remarkably, one individual has already started streaming it live on Twitch.
The content streamed showcases a preview of what gamers can anticipate from Marathon. This is a single-player, first-person extraction shooter game. In the stream, we observed the player navigating through the initial map, Dire Marsh, examining the environment and collecting items before time ran out.
Generally, he’s often spotted darting across the game map, predominantly engaging AI opponents in Player vs Environment (PvE), which turn out to be quite formidable. He’s experimented with various Runners and delved into other aspects of the user interface such as loadouts and Contracts. Due to playing alone, not much additional content was displayed, but he did pop by the second map, Perimeter, for a quick scout.
Around its boundary, the weather is changeable – temperature fluctuations may immediately affect your mobility.
In Marathon, the movement looks fantastic compared to Destiny 2, showing a significant improvement. However, it’s important to note that in this game, characters are not Guardians, so the movement is more realistic and less superhuman. You’ll find yourself jumping over walls and climbing ladders as an ordinary person might. It seems only Glitch has mobility similar to Destiny 2’s Hunter; other characters move more like regular humans.

It appeared to the Twitch audience that the gamer was unaware they were playing the game a full day ahead of schedule, with the exception perhaps of when the Closed Beta begins on April 23 and ends on May 4.
The chat found the game’s movement, visuals, and shooting mechanics particularly impressive, noting that the gunplay seems more fluid and intense than in Destiny 2. Now, there’s a noticeable punch when firing a weapon, giving it a weightier, more deliberate feel compared to our Guardians.
For approximately an hour and a half, the live stream continued, but then it was announced that Marathon’s server required maintenance, indicating that the stream was about to conclude. Before the stream ended, he chose to display various aspects of the game’s user interface, including the contents within the Factions tab.
In summary, it seems as though there’s been an unusual lapse, perhaps an error or a malfunction from Xbox’s side. It’s quite ironic because, surprisingly, the Sony game Marathon appeared on Xbox, creating an unanticipated and daring turn of events.
