UK’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Unveiled: Britain’s Best Comedians to Take the Stage!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, a longstanding live sketch comedy series on American TV that first aired in 1975. To celebrate this milestone, they had a special star-packed episode last month and are now taking their show across the Atlantic with a new UK version. Other countries like Japan (since 2012) and Canada (from 2014 to 2015) have already adapted their own versions of the show, and now it’s the United Kingdom’s turn to jump on board.

As reported by Deadline, plans for a British adaptation of “Saturday Night Live” are now officially underway. The concept was first hinted at three years ago when Sky began developing the UK version. Now, we can look forward to “Saturday Night Live UK,” which has been approved for production. Set to premiere in 2026 (with a specific release date still undisclosed), Lorne Michaels, who originated the series back in 1975, will serve as executive producer for this new version.

As per the latest update, the British adaptation of the renowned series, similar to its American counterpart, will feature rotating hosts and musical guests. In a released statement, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios, expressed, “For more than five decades, Saturday Night Live has occupied a distinctive place in television and our shared culture, mirroring and shaping the worldwide dialogue while being skillfully steered by the comedic genius of Lorne Michaels.

For many years, our program has been uncovering and cultivating a multitude of comedy and musical talents. We’re excited to collaborate with Lorne and the SNL team in creating a British adaptation of this show for our viewers in the UK. Starting next year, you can catch it live every Saturday night right here in London!

Who Will Star in the UK’s ‘Saturday Night Live‘?

While the guest hosts provide plenty of laughter, it’s the main cast of Saturday Night Live that truly makes the show shine. Over the years, comedic legends like Will Ferrell, Chevy Chase, Tina Fey, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Garrett Morris, Kristen Wiig, Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon, and numerous others have graced its stages with their humor. The British comedy scene is known for nurturing fresh talent with a distinctive British wit. As of now, the cast for the UK’s version of Saturday Night Live has not been unveiled, but there are several promising names that fans eagerly anticipate.

For the inaugural year of 2026, the British adaptation of “Saturday Night Live” will require prominent figures to kickstart its run, given that the American version isn’t particularly popular in the UK. Notable personalities such as Richard Ayoade, Bob Mortimer, Greg Davies, Lee Mack, Jimmy Carr, and Joe Lycett could serve as a significant pull for British viewers to tune in. However, “Saturday Night Live” is also known for providing a platform for rising comedians. Consequently, the cast might consist of both established and upcoming talents for the initial season, striking a balance that makes the most sense for the UK debut.
