Ulajh: Gulshan Devaiah REACTS to Janhvi Kapoor starrer's poor box office collection; 'Struggle is the salt that makes success taste good'

As a lifelong film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the struggles and triumphs of artists, I find myself utterly captivated by Gulshan Devaiah‘s recent statement regarding Ulajh’s box office performance. The man exudes an unwavering passion for cinema that resonates with my own soul.

The movie “Ulajh,” starring Janhvi Kapoor, was one of the most eagerly awaited films in 2024. However, upon its release, Sudhanshu Saria’s directorial effort struggled to gain traction at the box office. This suspenseful drama, featuring Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Meiyan Chang, and Rajesh Tailang, didn’t make a significant impression on its first day. Recently, Gulshan shared his thoughts about the film’s disappointing box-office performance.

On August 4th, I reposted an update on my old social media (previously Twitter) about the box office earnings of the movie “Ulajh,” where I had the pleasure of acting alongside Janhvi Kapoor. In the caption, I penned down, “Endurance is what makes triumph taste sweet. Those who shy away from the grind will never attain anything meaningful. This industry is tough, plain and simple.”

When someone commented that Over-The-Top platforms are the future for films receiving widespread admiration, Gulshan expressed his differing opinion by stating, “I believe feature films should be watched on the large cinema screen. Whether they are hits or flops, they will continue to exist. I might be practical about many things, but when it comes to cinema, I hold onto my ideals firmly. I also understand that not everyone may share this viewpoint. For me, it’s a deeply personal perspective on the art of filmmaking.”

On its debut at the Indian box office, the film struggled to gross approximately one crore rupees, largely due to being screened on 750 screens simultaneously with Ajay Devgn’s “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” and competing against last week’s releases that are still running in cinemas.

In the story of Ulajh, we find Suhana Bhatia (played by Janhvi Kapoor), who is an Indian Foreign Services Officer and hails from a lineage of patriots. She has been given the role of Deputy High Commissioner at the Indian High Commission in London. Some of her colleagues dislike her because they believe she effortlessly obtained such a high position, possibly due to her prominent family background.

Approximately three months later, she begins a romantic relationship with Nakul (played by Gulshan Devaiah), a renowned Michelin Star chef. Her personal and professional lives are thriving until an incident arises that blurs the lines between her private and professional spheres.
