As someone who’s been spinning vinyl since the days of 8-tracks, I can’t help but be swept away by the UNDERCOVER RECORDS x CAN collaboration! Growing up in the psychedelic era, CAN’s unique blend of rock, electronica, and avant-garde sounds was a staple in my record collection. To see this iconic band’s influence brought to life through Jun Takahashi’s fashion lens is nothing short of mind-bending!
Under the brand name “UNDERCOVER RECORDS,” which was established in 2006 as part of Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER empire, has teamed up with the legendary German rock band CAN to create a line of 12 unique clothing items that draw inspiration from CAN’s groundbreaking music catalog.
Established in the late 1960s, CAN’s unique sound combines psychedelic rock, electronics, jazz, and avant-garde elements to create a distinctive mix. UNDERCOVER RECORDS has collaborated with this group before, particularly on several vinyl records and merchandise in 2017. However, this latest collaboration represents their most extensive range of ready-to-wear fashion items yet.

The campaign showcased, featuring Takahashi and others, highlights the diverse collection of mod-inspired coats, coach jackets, MA-1s, pullovers, sweatshirts, and T-shirts from this rock-infused collaboration. Remarkably, these designs acknowledge the influential music of the bands, notably their debut album “Monster Movie (Made in a Castle with Better Equipment)”, released in 1969, as well as “Future Day” and “Saw Delight” from 1973 and 1977 respectively. Additionally, the designs also reference the band’s singles “Vitamic C” from 1973 and their hit “I Want More” from 1976.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the eagerly anticipated UNDERCOVER RECORDS x CAN collection will officially drop online and in UNDERCOVER’s Japan stores this coming Saturday, December 7, at 11 a.m. (Japan Standard Time).
