As a dedicated fan of quality documentaries and nonfiction content, I can’t help but feel a surge of admiration for the team at RadicalMedia‘s nonfiction entertainment division. Their recent decision to voluntarily recognize the Writers Guild of America East union is a testament to their commitment to fairness, justice, and the well-being of their employees.
The nonfiction entertainment division of RadicalMedia has been voluntarily acknowledged by management as a union, which is supported by the Writers Guild of America East.
Based on WGA East, it’s stated that the producer of “Summer of Soul” recognized a bargaining group consisting of 65 staff members in production and post-production roles on December 6th. The union is planning to initiate negotiations for their first contract in the upcoming year. RadicalMedia has yet to respond to our request for comment.
The union’s organizing committee is thrilled to announce that RadicalMedia has chosen to acknowledge our union on their own accord. We eagerly anticipate discussing a just agreement that tackles our issues and aligns with the values demonstrated in the thought-provoking nonfiction content this forward-thinking production company creates.
On October 23rd, the WGA East officially initiated their union drive within the company, revealing that a significant number of employees in the proposed bargaining group had already signed union petitions. In an open letter, the organizers expressed their intent to discuss issues such as wages, benefits, work environment, job stability, and career progression with the company.
The workers expressed that their unionization effort should not be perceived as a sign of discontent, but rather as a reflection of our collective aspiration towards a more illustrious future, not only at RadicalMedia, but also within the realm of nonfiction film and television production. They appealed for voluntary acknowledgement in this endeavor.
RadicalMedia’s division focused on nonfiction entertainment has been responsible for creating documentaries such as Joe Berlinger’s “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey”, Justin Simien’s “Hollywood Black”, Lisa Bryant’s “Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich”, and Liz Garbus’ “What Happened, Miss Simone”.
