As a seasoned gamer and streetwear enthusiast who has spent countless hours exploring the virtual streets of Los Santos to Tokyo-Tokyo, I must say this Union x DISCOVERED collaboration is a sight for sore eyes! Having grown up listening to local music scenes from both LA and Japan, I can appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each piece of this collection.
Union, a retailer based in Los Angeles, has traveled all the way to Tokyo for a unique collaboration with Japanese brand DISCOVERED. This joint project will be showcased at Shibuya Parco from December 27th to January 5th. The six-piece collection will be available both at the pop-up location and on DISCOVERED’s official online store.
In a collaborative manner, DISCOVERED employs techniques similar to those initially used by founders Tatsuya Kimura and Sanae Yoshida. As early as 2001, these designers started creating custom clothes for local musicians, using reclaimed clothing pieces and distinctive stitching and embellishments. DISCOVERED aptly refers to this methodology as “newsed,” reflecting its innovative approach to fashion design.
In this unique assortment, a fisherman cardigan in a soft cream shade catches the eye, decorated with thick, embroidered yarns. Its knitted texture is chunky, showcasing vibrant floral patterns and loose threads, adding to its edgy style. Meanwhile, a black MA-1 bomber jacket crafted from mohair fabric breaks tradition by utilizing a plush material and boasts unfinished white logos stitched carelessly for an unrefined look.
The assortment provides two stylishly worn-out hoodies in shades of heather gray and black. Continuing the theme, these hoodies feature loose yarns for a unique texture. Lastly, completing the collection are two T-shirts, one in black and the other in cream, both embellished with dual-toned graphics and embroidery, bearing our brand logo.
Check out the campaign featuring Larry June from the Bay Area, rapper, and drop by the pop-up location on the 3rd floor of Shibuya PARCO, 15-1 Udagawacho, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.
