Universal Destinations & Experiences aims to construct its inaugural theme park in the ancient British town of Bedford, which lies north of London and can be reached quickly by car (or possibly a swift Harry Potter broom ride!).

Universal Destinations & Experiences, a division of Comcast NBC Universal, has revealed some preliminary plans for Europe’s first Universal-themed amusement park. Joining the ranks of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood in the U.S., as well as Universal Studios Japan, Universal Studios Singapore, and Universal Beijing Resort in Asia, this new European park would be the sixth Universal-branded theme park worldwide.

Preliminary information about the Bedford park is scarce at this point, as it hasn’t been formally named yet. However, the initial details that have surfaced are undeniably intriguing. Here’s a brief sneak peek into what you might anticipate, directly from Universal Destinations & Experiences:

Our plans include building an all-encompassing entertainment resort that boasts a top-tier theme park, showcasing several themed areas inspired by Universal’s unique blend of captivating narratives, pulse-pounding rides, groundbreaking attractions, and electrifying shows. The initial designs for the resort include a 500-room hotel, as well as a shopping, dining, and entertainment precinct. This will mark the first Universal-branded theme park to appear in the UK and Europe.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming project is currently being planned and awaiting approval. If all goes as expected, it will take root on a sprawling 476-acre site situated south of Bedford, with an anticipated opening in 2031. However, at this stage, we can’t predict the specific attractions or experiences that the Universal Destination s & Experiences has in store for us. They assure us that more details about the project will gradually unfold over time, subject to the necessary planning and consent approvals.

According to Universal, the selection of their upcoming global theme park, positioned beyond Bedford, offers numerous advantages for future visitors. They refer to this location as an “ideal” choice due to its quick, efficient rail connections to London and London Luton Airport. Moreover, they highlight that the site’s accessibility is effortless from various regions of the UK and Europe.

The news arrives precisely at a time when Universal is aiming for the highly anticipated opening day of Universal Epic Universe, their latest expansion spanning over 750 acres within Universal Orlando.
