Unleash Devastation: Top Focus Strikes in Monster Hunter Wilds!

Monster Hunter Wilds has become one of Capcom’s biggest hits in recent times, with some previous releases like Exoprimal not quite meeting expectations. One reason for this new game’s success lies in the fresh enhancements, innovations, and tweaks to the formula that appeal both to new players and long-time fans who were seeking a break from recurring gimmicks.

One significant improvement in Monster Hunter Wilds is the introduction of Wounds. Repeated attacks on specific areas can lead to the discovery of vulnerabilities, or Wounds, which players can then capitalize on. What weapons are particularly effective at making use of these Wounds by performing a Focus Strike? Let’s explore that.

6. Gunlance

Add Some Ammo To Your Lunges

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Gunlance sets itself apart as it merges a Lance’s spear-like structure with a gun barrel at its tip, much like how Final Fantasy 8 introduced the innovative Gunblade by combining a sword with a revolver. During certain combos in Monster Hunter Wilds, players can conclude their attacks by showering monsters with a barrage of bullets from the Gunlance.

This technique, known as Focus Strike with Gunlance, is at its best when executed in close proximity to the monster. To perform it, players should drive their weapon into the beast and immediately fire ammo. Afterward, they must swiftly withdraw their weapon to trigger a final explosion. While this move can cause significant damage, especially when inflicting a wound, it’s not the quickest or the safest approach to employ.

5. Insect Glaive

Bug And Man Unite

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Insect Glaive stands out for causing Wounds effectively, yet it may not excel in Focus Strikes. The Insect Glaive features blades on both ends, offering players a wider range of options when constructing combos. While it might take a bit longer to get started than smaller weapons, the Insect Glaive’s versatility lies in its vertical maneuverability, allowing players to leap into the air.

As an avid player, I’m super excited about this aerial combat system! During intense battles, I can swiftly target monsters, creating multiple vulnerabilities for my teammates to exploit. The thrill comes when I land a hit on one of these weaknesses with my Insect Glaive. The finale is the cherry on top – I’ll gracefully retreat to safety, then release my Kinsect for that final, decisive strike against the monster. These handy little creatures are always attached to my Insect Glaive and can perform a variety of tasks, from providing healing to weakening enemies with debilitating status effects.

4. Charge Blade

Buzz Through Hides

In comparison to the Insect Glaive, a Charge Blade may seem slower, but its destructive power against monsters is astonishing. Upon initial observation, it might appear similar to a common sword and shield combination in many other action RPGs. However, in Monster Hunter World, the shield offers some protection against enemy attacks.

Instead of keeping them separate, you can merge the sword and shield into a massive spinning blade called a giant sword. It may take some getting used to at first, but with repetition, particularly during practice sessions, mastering the correct combination sequences should become second nature. To execute a Focus Strike, players must impale their Charge Blade into a monster and then release it, mimicking the actions of a logger attempting to pierce a colossal tree in the Redwood Forest.

3. Dual Blades

Attack On Titan

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Dual Blades stand out as the most user-friendly melee weapons for beginners. Although they deal the least amount of damage among melee weapons, they make up for it by being the fastest. When players manage to pull off a good combo, they can spin around an enemy just like a fly circling tasty food at a picnic.

It’s particularly noticeable when players use Dual Blades to assault a Wound. Initially, they perform spinning attacks on the wound, then soar through the entire monster and finally execute a dramatic descent. In essence, it appears as though the animators were avid fans of Attack on Titan to have choreographed those moves so well. Such an idea of Titans invading the world of Monster Hunter Wilds would make for an extraordinary crossover event, indeed!

2. Heavy/Light Bowgun

Say Hello To My Little Friend

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the main distinction between Heavy and Light Bowguns lies in their weight and versatility; the lighter one is more adaptable. Regardless of whether players opt for standard ammo or specialized types like those that deal elemental damage, both versions deliver a significant impact. To put it simply, Bowguns in Monster Hunter Wilds function much like Gatling Guns do in shooting games.

To inflict damage on vulnerable spots, all players simply need to keep firing at specific areas for a short duration, then they can perform a Focused Strike without needing any special combo techniques. In essence, Bowguns are quite straightforward to use; aim, shoot, and cross your fingers for the best outcome. However, this simplicity comes at a cost as they lack many unique abilities, and their range might not be the strongest. Nevertheless, when it comes to taking advantage of weak spots, Bowguns excel remarkably well.

1. Bow

A More Skillful Ranged Weapon

Bows serve many purposes, such as introducing newcomers to the Monster Hunter Wilds universe. One advantage of bows is that they help keep players safe from monsters, making them beginner-friendly. Additionally, bows offer an easy method for taking advantage of injuries in the game.

When a wound appears on a monster, players can mark it by pressing R1 on their PS5 controller. Subsequently, an arrow will be locked onto the target when deployed. After a brief interval, the marked area will detonate, usually causing the monster to collapse, providing players and their teammates with an opportunity to inflict additional damage before the monster resumes its destructive charge. The Bow’s range and homing capability during Focus Strike are unrivaled in the game, undoubtedly setting it apart from other weapons.
