This announcement follows the release of the Applicant’s Guidebook. If our application is successful, this new domain will join ICANN-registered gTLDs such as .com, .net, and .org. In a move similar to Ethereum Name Service (ENS), this partnership adopts a strategy by integrating “on-chain .box domains” in our system, which became available through ENS in April. ICANN has approved the use of the .box top-level domain (gTLD), making it the first of its kind to be included alongside .eth within our manager application. These .box domains are discoverable and indexed by major browsers such as Google Chrome and Safari, and they’re compatible with popular email services.
In the realm of Web3, domain names serve as an accessible alternative to the intricate Domain Name System (DNS), translating user-friendly labels like “alice.eth” into complex crypto addresses. The partnership between Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com could mark the beginning of more Web3 Top Level Domains (TLDs) acquiring their corresponding Web2 counterparts, thereby narrowing the divide between advanced Web3 domains and the conventional internet.
