‘Until Dawn’ Posters Show Monsters from the Creepy Time Loop Film

In the upcoming horror video game adaptation titled “Until Dawn“, fresh posters have been unveiled, showcasing the terrifying creatures that will stalk the characters. These unfortunate souls are trapped in a time loop, compelled to endure their horrific ordeal repeatedly until a new trailer premieres tomorrow, which is a day before the movie’s scheduled release in April.

The movie is helmed by director David F. Sandberg, known for his work on the Shazam! films as well as Annabelle: Creation. The script comes from Gary Dauberman, who has also penned It and The Nun, with additional writing by Blair Butler. Until Dawn features Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell, and Belmont Cameli in the lead roles. Notably, Peter Stormare (from Fargo) portrays Dr. Hill, a character he previously voiced in the video game.

The official plot reads:

A year following her mysterious disappearance, Clover along with her friends venture into the secluded valley where she last was seen, seeking answers. Delving into an old visitor center, they’re pursued by a masked slayer who mercilessly takes their lives, one after another…yet, they all find themselves back at the start of the same dreadful night. Stuck in the valley, they’re compelled to reexperience this horror repeatedly – with each iteration, the threat escalates, becoming increasingly horrifying. As hope fades, the group comes to understand that they have a finite number of deaths, and their only chance for freedom lies in enduring until dawn.

‘Until Dawn’ Won’t be a Direct Adaptation of the Famous Video Game

In the promotional material for Until Dawn, it seems that the monsters resemble those from the well-known 2015 video game. The cast features Hayden Panettiere (from Heroes) as Samantha, Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) as Joshua, and Stormare as Dr. Hill. Interestingly, the film adaptation is taking a slightly new approach, with the director and screenwriters deviating from the original game’s narrative.

Almost a month ago, the initial trailer was released together with an additional video, and enthusiasts of the video game got a glimpse into Sandberg and the writers’ intended direction. The game follows eight youths on Blackwood Mountain as they struggle to make it through the night. Their choices create a ripple effect that can alter the story’s outcome. In this movie adaptation, a fresh group of characters finds themselves trapped in a time loop and must endure the night to survive.

Sandberg explained:

In the same eerie atmosphere and similar narrative style as the movie, it delves deeper into the universe’s lore. One innovative aspect of the game is that players can shape their own stories by making various decisions that lead to diverse deaths. The film incorporates a unique feature where events reset, offering another chance for survival. Each rebirth feels like stepping into a fresh horror genre, and surviving until dawn becomes the ultimate goal.

In these stories, such as Groundhog Day with Bill Murray or Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise, there’s a sense of deja vu as the characters seem to be trapped in an endless cycle of repeating the same day or battle. However, it is revealed that they have a limited number of chances to die and resurrect, specifically 13 times, before their demise becomes permanent.

Until Dawn opens in theaters on April 25, 2025.
