- Tribe Nine, the upcoming “extreme” ARPG will hold its first PC beta in August
- The game, from creator Kazutaka Kodaka, is also coming to mobile
- It centres around violent street crime that is resolved by playing an extreme form of baseball
As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for action role-playing games (ARPGs), I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming release of Tribe Nine. This “extreme” ARPG, created by the brilliant mind behind Danganronpa, Kazutaka Kodaka, and developed by the talented team at Akatsuki & Took Kyo Games, is truly a feast for the gaming senses.
In a dystopian future Neo-Tokyo, Tribe Nine is set. Here, young people have banded together into violent gangs. To put an end to this chaos, the government enacts the XB Law as a solution. This law proposes that any conflicts among the tribes be settled through the exciting and extreme sport of “Extreme Baseball”.
Kazutaka Kodaka, known for his successful visual novel series “Danganronpa” on PSP and PC, is also the director of this project. Fans of Danganronpa will recognize his name. The character designs appear to be influenced by Rui Komatsuzaki’s work. Komatsuzaki created the characters for Danganronpa, along with artist Shimadoriru.
Batter up
The enjoyment of Tribe Nine hinges significantly on your connection to Kazutaka Kodaka’s unique themes and often grim backdrops. While it may seem amusing that intense baseball matches decide gang conflicts, rest assured there will be more serious and potentially disturbing scenes from the mind of Danganronpa’s creator.
Regarding a mobile beta version of Tribe Nine, it’s unlikely we’ll see one before the end of the year. However, the team is making good progress, as evidenced by the inclusion of their new creator program in this beta.
