Val and Bruce’s Shocking Revelation: Matt’s Secret Exposed in St. Denis Medical Finale!

After the thrilling climax of the final episode left us hanging, I couldn’t be happier that NBC has decided to bring back St. Denis Medical for another season! Co-created by Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer, this sitcom offers a unique perspective as it delves into the world of an underfunded and understaffed Oregon hospital where dedicated medical professionals strive to care for their patients while preserving their own mental well-being. The talented cast, consisting of Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi, brings this story to life.

Matt has harbored feelings for Serena ever since he began working there, yet she remained clueless during the initial season. However, everyone else in the office was privy to Matt’s affection, and Val eventually grew tired of witnessing the situation unfold. She reveals Matt’s crush to Serena, with Bruce adding his confirmation to the disclosure. The series “This Place is Our Everything” concludes with Matt pondering whether it’s time for him to seek new opportunities, while Serena reacts in shock to the news she has just received.

I had a chat with Josh Lawson and Kaliko Kauahi regarding the major disclosure in the final episode of St. Denis Medical, the development of Bruce, Val’s preferred colleague, and the dynamics of their respective characters.

Val Wanted To End Matt And Serena’s “Will They/Won’t They” In The St. Denis Medical Finale

“She tried to ignore it, but the frustration of having it infiltrate her work life took its toll.”

ScreenRant: Bruce and Val revealed Matt’s feelings towards Serena. I’m curious, what led Val to share that information with you, Kaliko?

Kaliko Kauahi: For far too long, Val had watched this “will they/won’t they” situation unfold before her eyes, and she found herself unable to bear it any longer. Despite her attempts to brush it aside, the annoyance of it seeping into her professional life became unmanageable, leaving her yearning for a change or, at the very least, an end to this pattern. Continuing down the same path was not an option she wished to consider.

Hey Josh, have you noticed any change in Bruce’s skills as a surgeon compared to when we first met him in the pilot episode? Or is he still the same surgeon?

Regarding Josh Lawson’s question about the dynamic between Bruce and Matt: Absolutely. To illustrate, we can observe that Bruce’s relationship with Matt evolved from a hesitant acceptance to one where he assumed an unexpected, self-designated mentorship role as the series unfolded.

Regarding that kind of transformation, it applies to every patient in the hospital. However, when it comes to Bruce, there’s a mixed response. In essence, I don’t believe he has undergone a fundamental change at his core, but I do observe that his character traits have grown more intricate and multifaceted over time.

Do you want him to evolve, or do you think it’s funnier to leave him as is?

John Lawson: There’s definitely a lot more to discover about Bruce, and there’s a lot of potential for growth. We’re still learning so many things about him. As more pieces fall into place, the mystery becomes even more captivating.

Bruce Is Still Hyper-Fixated On Val’s List In St. Denis Medical

“Val and the Nutrageous bar are just two of the many things that keep him up at night.”

Hi Kaliko, I’ve been wondering something for a while now because Val can be quite straightforward. Among all the people she works with, who does she seem to get along with best, or perhaps even just finds it easiest to work with?

Kaliko Kauahi: I believe she enjoys collaborating with Serena due to their no-nonsense personalities. This is the reason Val eventually finds herself needing to discuss Matt’s feelings for her with Serena. It frustrates her greatly that someone who usually perceives things so clearly seems oblivious to something as evident as this.

Previously, I brought it up with Kaliko, but after Bruce found out he wasn’t on Val’s list, he developed strong feelings for her. Is there any indication now that he has moved past that, or does it seem like those feelings are still unresolved?

Josh Lawson: Bruce has a tough time letting go of things! He frequently becomes intensely focused on something, and once this happens, it’s hard for him to stop until he claims victory. Among the numerous topics that keep him awake at night are Val and the Nutrageous bar.

More About NBC’s St. Denis Medical

Created By Eric Ledgin And Justin Spitzer

Alex, a dedicated nurse, has recently been promoted to Supervising Nurse in the emergency department at St. Denis Medical Center in Oregon. She works alongside a diverse group of underfunded yet passionate doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, including her superior, Joyce, who aspires to transform the hospital into a renowned international medical center. There’s also Dr. Ron, a seasoned professional who has experienced and witnessed countless situations, and seems to be growing weary of it all. Despite the overwhelming patient influx, they are all striving diligently to maintain their composure while providing care not only to every arriving patient but also to each other.
