- Valorant is coming to mobile, for real this time, as Lightspeed is set to develop
- A China-first release strategy is planned, with further news to come
- The announcement by Riot marks the first real news we’ve had for almost four years
It appears that, following nearly four years without communication, Riot’s popular tactical hero shooter game Valorant may soon make its debut on mobile devices. This is due to a collaboration between Riot and Lightspeed Studios, a Tencent-owned company, for development purposes. Although an exact launch date has not been determined, it seems China might serve as the initial location for a wider rollout.
Valorant offers a unique blend, somewhat akin to the mix of Counter-Strike and Overwatch. Its standout feature is a fusion of strategic gunplay and special agent skills. The main game mode involves a 5v5 battle over 13 rounds, where each round grants just one life to participants, similar to Counter-Strike. However, it also incorporates an objective, such as defusing or planting a bomb, that will be familiar to those who have played Counter-Strike.
It’s not surprising that Riot and Lightspeed have teamed up since they’re both under the umbrella of Tencent. We’ve been waiting for an official announcement, though, regarding Valorant Mobile after a lengthy quiet spell.
Valorous
For players, it’s almost certain that the game will be launched on multiple operating systems due to Android’s high popularity in China. All we can definitely say at this point is what Riot has officially announced: development is underway with Lightspeed involved, and they plan to release the game first in China.
Luckily, this also signifies that we can temporarily anticipate a broader launch. However, considering the ongoing challenges in international trade, particularly those related to essential devices like smartphones for mobile gaming, it seems we might need to be patient before Tencent, Lightspeed, and Riot are ready to disclose an exact timeline for when Valorant will become available globally on mobile platforms.
For now, if you’re eager to play something, you might want to hold off on puzzle games or cooking simulation titles. Instead, consider exploring our curated selection of top-notch shooting games available on Android and iOS devices.
