As a dedicated VALORANT player with years of experience under my belt, I can tell you that the arrival of update 9.02 and its accompanying patch notes isn’t exactly setting my heart ablaze with excitement. However, I must admit that the introduction of Icebox on console is something to look forward to, as it adds a fresh twist to the gameplay experience I’ve grown accustomed to over time. The various other changes and additions listed in the patch notes might not be groundbreaking, but they are certainly worth paying attention to for anyone who wants to stay ahead of the curve in this competitive shooter. Overall, while it may not be the most thrilling update we’ve seen, it still has the potential to bring new challenges and opportunities for players like myself to adapt and improve our skills.

  • People who engage in comms abuse will now experience increased penalties

Bug fixes

Agents

  • Neon:
    • Fixed a bug where Neon’s hitbox could be slightly offset when sliding

Gameplay systems

  • Fixed an issue in Premier Overtime voting that prevented people from calling an Overtime Timeout when switching sides
  • Fixed an issue with Ability HUG persisting into deathcam

Maps

  • Abyss:
    • Fixed several areas where the Spike could get stuck on certain ledges outside of the map
    • Fixed a bug where Omen could die by teleporting in a specific spot in Mid Bottom
    • Fixed several visual bugs
  • Sunset:
    • Fixed an issue where you could jump on the tall box in A Alley

PC changes

General updates

  • The Basic Training (Tutorial) and The Range have been made available on PC, following their introduction in the Console version
    • All new players will need to play through the tutorial and will also have the option of playing a Bot Training match
    • Current players can access Basic Training and The Range through the Practice menu

Gameplay systems

  • Combat Report:
    • The Combat Report has received a visual refresh
    • You will now be able to view the Combat Report during the Buy Phase by default

Social updates

  • Added platform information to the Social panel, making it clearer when a Friend is playing VALORANT on a different platform

Bug fixes

  • Premier:
    • Fixed an issue where the playoff results text on the standings page was always displayed in English
    • Fixed an issue where the team page was showing the wrong background
    • Fixed an issue where changing the Stage in the dropdown on the standings page sometimes wouldn’t refresh the content

Console changes

General updates

  • The ‘Keep Player Centered’ minimap setting will now be forced ‘On’ for minimap zoom levels above 1.0

Agent updates

  • Select abilities that require you to press and hold their input will now be able to become toggleable. The following affected abilities are:
    • High Tide (Harbour)
    • Fire Wall (Phoenix)
    • Guiding Light (Skye)

  • Neon:
    • High Gear’s description in the Ability Info Panel has been updated to match the ability’s bindings
  • Sova:
    • Hunter’s Fury applies less drag on your controls, allowing greater control over the charge duration

Map updates

  • Icebox has been added to the Competitive, Unrated, Swift Play, and Deathmatch queues

Social updates

  • Voice control shortcuts are now available within the in-match scoreboard, allowing you to quickly mute other players or switch voice channels
  • You’ll now receive a notification sound when you receive a friend request or party invite
  • Added party information to the Social Panel, showing you the number of people in your friend’s party and the remaining open party slots

Bug fixes

General

  • Fixed an issue where you could lose input when interfacing with the surrender vote system
  • Fixed an issue where unbound inputs displayed incorrect controller bindings
  • Fixed an issue where the megamap sometimes rotated when spectating other players after death
  • Credits are now localised properly within the tutorial
  • Fixed an issue where the weapon wheel was not displaying the correct inputs when changing controls in individual Agent Profiles

Gameplay systems

  • Fixed an update with timestamp and ability status text overlapping in Combat Reports
  • Fixed ‘Self’ and ‘Ally’ not localising in the Combat Report text
  • Fixed overrun texts in Combat Reports for Indonesian localised texts

Performance

  • Fixed a performance issue when changing controller presets

Social

  • Fixed a bug where you could not remove someone as a friend while in an ongoing match
  • Fixed a bug where your presence sometimes would not update after a match had finished
  • Fixed a bug where social systems would sometimes not respect block
  • Fixed a bug where your name would sometimes display in-match even when you have set it to ‘Hidden’

Weapons

  • Mitigated an issue when using scoped weapons where your sensitivity would sharply increase at the beginning of the scope zoom-in transitions
