As a passionate fan of NCIS: Hawai’i, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia upon seeing the heartwarming holiday reunion that Jason Antoon shared on his Instagram. The sudden cancellation of the series left me, along with many others, feeling frustrated and disappointed, especially since it ended on such an unresolved note.
The gathering of familiar faces at Vanessa Lachey‘s home felt like a small miracle, as if no time had passed since we last saw them in action on Monday nights. The tropical spread and references to Hawaiian cultural norms added to the warm, inviting atmosphere that made me yearn for more of their engaging storylines.
Seeing Nick Lachey among the group was a delightful surprise, even though his character didn’t get the chance to fully explore his potential in the series before it ended. I can only imagine how shocked and blindsided he must have felt by the cancellation, just like the rest of us fans.
Although the cancellation was due to a scheduling conflict, I’m grateful for this holiday reunion as a small gift from the cast members. It’s a bittersweet reminder of what could have been and what we lost, but it also brings hope for their futures. And if you’re looking to relive those moments, all you need is a Paramount+ subscription!
Jokingly speaking, I might just add #SaveNCISHawaii to my holiday wishlist this year, hoping that Santa will bring back our beloved show. After all, who wouldn’t want more adventures with this talented cast and the beautiful scenery of Hawaii?
2024 television programming faced numerous cancellations of popular shows prematurely, including “NCIS: Hawai’i,” which was unexpectedly terminated by CBS prior to its controversial cliffhanger finale in May. This sudden ending left many viewers disappointed and questioning the reasoning behind this decision, as no clear justification was provided. Despite being off-air for much of the year, fans have persisted in their efforts to save the series, and a recent post featuring a mini cast reunion by Vanessa Lachey seems to suggest that no significant time has elapsed since the controversial cancellation.
Leave it to the holidays to bring us small surprises that feed our media-loving souls. Jason Antoon, who played Ernie Malik, posted to his Instagram an NCIS: Hawai’i gathering at his costar’s home. And even though it’s a small group, it feels like we were just watching the finale yesterday. The caption speaks sweetly of those present (and not) while wishing everyone a good holiday season, check it out for yourself here:

I didn’t realize how much I needed this gift, but now I’m really happy to have it. Gathering some of the cast members together for an informal holiday reunion just feels natural, and with the delightful assortment of fruits, ties to Hawaiian cultural practices, and all, it’s like a part of the show coming back to life – if only temporarily. It’s almost therapeutic in helping me cope with the show getting canceled. Plus, having Nick Lachey there is an added treat, even though he didn’t get a chance to explore his character further before the series ended.
In a surprising turn of events, one of the hosts of “Love is Blind” confessed that they were taken aback by the show’s cancellation, just like their fellow cast members. Although it had a dedicated audience and grew in popularity somewhat, it unfortunately ran into scheduling issues. The bigwigs at The Eye Network explained that under different circumstances, Lachey and his team might still be gracing our screens. Fans continue to campaign for the series’ revival, frequently using the hashtag #SaveNCISHawaii online, but it’s heartening to know that this holiday reunion was given as a small token to fans.
This gathering picture is heartwarming and fills me with optimism for their individual paths ahead. Strangely, it also transports me back to those tearful goodbyes, as if no time has elapsed since then. Yet, viewers can immediately access episodes with a Paramount+ subscription without delay.
