Varun Dhawan accepts he was jealous of Sidharth Malhotra during Student of the Year: ‘Mera dream jo hai…’

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I must say that it’s fascinating to delve into the personal experiences and journeys of our favorite stars. One such journey that caught my attention recently is Varun Dhawan opening up about his feelings towards his co-star, Sidharth Malhotra during their debut movie, Student of the Year.

Back in 2012, I made my Bollywood debut alongside Sidharth Malhotra in the movie Student of the Year. In an earlier chat, David Dhawan, my father, shared that I harbored some insecurities towards Sidharth. More recently, I’ve come clean about those feelings and admitted that I was envious of my fellow actor. I remember questioning if my dream would ever become a reality.

During my latest chat with Shubhankar Mishra, Varun Dhawan opened up about the pangs of jealousy he experienced alongside Sidharth Malhotra during our shared debut film, Student of the Year. He candidly admitted that Sidharth’s towering stature, broad frame, and striking good looks made him feel overshadowed in the limelight. In a two-hero film like ours, Varun confessed that he worried whether people would acknowledge his own talent or not, questioning if he would remain unnoticed amidst Sidharth’s charms, saying to himself, “Will I even be noticed, or will my dream just continue as an unfulfilled aspiration?

Varun Dhawan admitted that by the time he entered the industry, there was already some negativity surrounding nepotism. Initially, he didn’t have a specific plan but believed he deserved a chance due to his hard work. However, he found that people weren’t seeing it that way. In his own words, “The response hasn’t always been positive.” He openly shared that he has faced many challenges and will continue to fight them.

In his own words, Honey Bunny (The Citadel’s star) stated that he had to battle during those times by means of work and acting. Varun explained that the public’s opinion shifted when his films became successful. When asked if his father provided him with opportunities afterwards, VD responded, “He gave it only later, but no matter what I say, people will still perceive things differently.

In terms of career, Varun Dhawan has a number of intriguing projects coming up. He’s set to appear in the romantic comedy “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” alongside Janhvi Kapoor, which is scheduled for release on April 18, 2025. Additionally, “Border 2”, “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai”, “No Entry 2”, and “Bhediya 2” are also among his upcoming films.
