As a dedicated follower of Varun Dhawan’s career, it’s fascinating to see his humility and realistic approach towards his craft. His ability to acknowledge his position in the industry and understand the demands of big-budget action films is commendable. It’s not every day you find a star who can balance talent with grounded expectations.
Actor Varun Dhawan, who’s quite busy in Bollywood, has a number of movies coming up. Lately, he’s been contemplating his strategy for large-scale productions, particularly action flicks. He confessed that, while he considers himself realistic about his position in the industry, he hasn’t yet achieved the box office success required to match the high budgets typically associated with big-budget action films, such as those produced by Aditya Chopra.
During a conversation with Instant Bollywood, Varun Dhawan was asked if he ever had doubts when Aditya Chopra mentioned a substantial budget was required to create an action movie starring him. Varun answered boldly, stating that he is well aware of his standing in the film industry and understands the financial aspects involved.
He admitted, “I understand fully the situation I find myself in. Admittedly, I could have taken on certain action roles. However, those roles alone wouldn’t suffice to validate my current standing.
In simpler terms, the actor stated that he believes only larger action movies accurately represent his current career status, since even those with moderate budgets can still make a significant impact.
He clarified, discussing a thoughtful instance with Aditya Chopra, who outlined the skills and effort needed to create blockbuster movies on a grand scale. Varun admitted that action movies, particularly those with high budgets, require substantial financing and skill.
Although raw talent can occasionally stretch limited resources, it has its practical limits in terms of what it can accomplish. Varun acknowledged that, at present, his films have not yet managed to generate the necessary box office revenues to warrant such extensive budgets, particularly for the most ambitious productions within the industry.
He expressed his belief that, so far, he hasn’t been able to reach that number with the type of comeback performances he delivers in major films. He was referring to the most prominent productions currently being produced.
As an over-the-moon fan, I was absolutely thrilled to be at the Citadel: Honey Bunny trailer launch! During the event, the dashing Varun Dhawan divulged an intriguing anecdote from a lockdown encounter with Aditya Chopra. Reminiscing about a spirited game of badminton with Aditya and Maneesh Sharma – both busy working on Tiger 3 – curiosity got the best of Varun, who inquired about why Chopra hadn’t cast a younger actor in one of his action films.
In a playful manner, the actor portraying Baby John inquired about the possibility of him being considered. Chopra clarified that currently, he didn’t have enough funds available for Varun, as his talent level hadn’t reached a point where such an investment would be justified. Later, he sought more information about this budget from Aditya, but discovered the substantial amount needed to produce a blockbuster-scale action movie.
Varun Dhawan is set to appear in an upcoming Indian version of the series Citadel, titled “Citadel: Honey Bunny.” This production, directed by Raj & DK and produced by D2R Films and Amazon MGM Studios, also features Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Notably, it has executive production from The Russo Brothers’ AGBO and Raj & DK. The premiere is scheduled for November 7 on Amazon Prime Video.
Varun’s lineup also features Baby John, Border 2, and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
