As an ardent fan of Varun Dhawan, I find his humility and respect for his family’s choices truly inspiring. Unlike many star kids who often lean on their familial connections to make their mark, Varun has chosen the path less trodden. His father, David Dhawan, didn’t launch him into Bollywood because that wasn’t a tradition in their household.
In a significant leap in his acting career, Varun Dhawan first appeared on the big screen through Karan Johar’s 2012 movie “Student of the Year,” marking a remarkable boost for him. Despite his father David Dhawan being an established filmmaker, Varun opted against launching his career with him. Recently, during the trailer launch of his niece Anjini Dhawan’s debut film “Binny And Family,” Varun explained that his family doesn’t typically help each other in their professional endeavors as a reason for this choice.
Dhawan expressed, “She’s more like a sister to me, serving as a sort of mentor figure. I’m here not just because she’s my niece, but also because this is a great movie. Just as my father didn’t launch me into the industry since that tradition isn’t in our family and he doesn’t support nepotism, we have nothing to do with her achievements, and it would be unfair for me to claim credit for her success.”
Varun expressed that Anjini has forged her own path independently, and he is incredibly proud of her journey. Directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy, “Binny And Family” is a heartwarming family drama exploring the intricate bonds between three generations, with Dhawan making his debut as Binny. This production, a collaboration between Mahaveer Jain Films & Wave Band Productions, will hit theaters on September 20.
For those who may be unfamiliar, Varun previously expressed a similar sentiment during the marketing of his first movie, telling PTI that David Dhawan did not actively guide him in his film career. However, it’s important to note that David never advised against Varun pursuing acting. Instead, as a father, he encouraged Varun to follow his dreams and asked him about his plans for becoming an actor. Throughout life, Varun shared, David supported him at every turn, providing him with the resources and comfort needed to succeed.
Varun Dhawan stated that David never pressured him into specific actions and would never do so. The one piece of advice David gave Varun was if he wanted to be an actor, he should ensure he didn’t tarnish his father’s reputation. As the Bhediya lead shared, David advised him to secure a quality script and a well-known production company.
