Vice Media is dropping the gloves.
Vice TV, in collaboration with their cable partner A&E, has secured a broadcast contract with BYB Bare Knuckle Boxing. This agreement allows Vice TV’s cable network to showcase 13 live events in 2022, primarily on Saturday evenings.
Vice TV is set to launch its inaugural live event series with the “BYB 37 Denver Brawl IV” on February 22, as part of a licensing agreement with a bare-knuckle boxing promoter. This deal signifies another step in Vice Media’s expansion into sports, distancing itself from its previous focus on edgy pop culture shows under the Viceland label.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to see the Live BYB Bare Knuckle Boxing added as a regular feature on Vice TV. As Vice Sports continues to grow its content, I’m thrilled that they’re expanding their offerings with captivating sports documentaries, shows, live events, and podcasts. According to Pete Gaffney, President of Vice TV, this announcement was made in an official statement on Thursday.
In 2023, I found myself facing a tough challenge when Vice Media, the media company I’ve long admired, filed for bankruptcy protection. Over the years, it had relied on a mix of debt and equity capital to fuel its impressive growth, transforming from a rebellious print magazine based in Montreal back in 1994 into the multimedia giant we know today – Vice Media. The original publication, known for its edgy and deliberately provocative content, changed its name to Vice two years after it was founded.
Over time, Vice Media grew into a vast, Brooklyn-rooted multinational media empire, boasting numerous digital platforms and a significant video production unit. However, it encountered a financial hurdle. Eventually, this media colossus was purchased out of bankruptcy by a group that included Fortress Investment Group for approximately $350 million.
Lately, Vice Media has unfurled the Vice Sports brand, with their television debut showcasing sports debate series like “Brady vs Belichick: The Final Judgment”, documentary series such as “Calipari: On the Edge” and “Pitino: Rising Storm”. All told, Vice Media intends to generate more than 50 hours of content centered around sports for worldwide distributors across both television and digital platforms.
