Vicky Kaushal’s Sardar Udham was ‘guiding light’ for Akshay Kumar’s Kesari: Chapter 2, reveals director Karan Singh Tyagi

In a fresh interview, Kesari Chapter 2’s director, Karan Singh Tyagi, disclosed that the movie Sardar Udham, featuring Vicky Kaushal, influenced their filmmaking as they worked on the project. He admired the last twenty minutes of Sardar Udham as one of the most impactful scenes in cinema, using it as a beacon for his creative journey.

During an interview with News18, Kesari 2 director, Karan Singh Tyagi, openly shared his profound respect for Sardar Udham, acknowledging that this historical figure had a substantial impact on his creative endeavors.

He talked about how he’d seen every movie depicting the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, such as Gandhi, finding them remarkably detailed and deeply moving in their portrayal of the tragedy. He also praised Shoojit Sircar and his collection of works.

It’s worth noting that Vicky Kaushal was given special recognition for his work as a narrator in Kesari Chapter 2’s credits. However, it’s important to understand that Karan Singh Tyagi, the film’s director, stated that this decision wasn’t due to his previous role in Sardar Udham.

During our conversation, Tyagi made it clear that Vicky supplied the voiceover at the start of the movie, which played a significant role in establishing the story’s tone. He mentioned further that while having Sardar Udham as a connection was an added advantage, the primary reason for selecting Vicky was his exceptional talent and the richness his voice offers.

In simple terms, Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the book “The Case That Shook The Empire,” written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. This film primarily revolves around the heart-wrenching Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the revolution that it ignited in its aftermath.

In the movie, Akshay Kumar assumes the character of C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who bravely opposed the British Empire. Ananya Panday is cast as Dilreet Gill, while R. Madhavan portrays Neville McKinley. Simon Paisley Day portrays General Reginald Dyer in this production.
