Vijay Varma admits he wants to do central roles moving forward for THIS reason: ‘I’ve had stints with ensemble casts'

As an ardent fan of Vijay Varma, I must say his journey in the world of acting is nothing short of captivating. From his humble beginnings with an unrealized lead role to his meteoric rise as a versatile actor, he has truly come a long way. Currently basking in the triumph of his latest mini-series titled IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Vijay Varma has been garnering acclaim for his acting skills. Despite the series receiving considerable criticism, Varma’s performance was singled out for particular appreciation. In a recent interview, the actor shared his intention to pursue central roles and confessed that he considers his time with ensemble casts to be in the past.

In a conversation with HT City, the actor revealed that from now on, he’s focusing on major roles as he’s had experience working with large ensembles. He expressed a desire to take on projects where he has greater responsibility. Furthermore, he highlighted the sense of security he gained from collaborating with accomplished actors such as Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Pahwa, and Kumud Mishra, under the leadership of a skilled director like Anubhav Sinha. Lastly, he emphasized his intention to choose more complex roles that offer him opportunities for personal growth.

Looking back on his career, the 38-year-old actor revealed that although he starred as the lead in his debut film, it never made it to theaters. Consequently, he had to blaze a trail for himself, starting with smaller roles. Despite garnering acclaim for his portrayals of villainous characters, Varma yearned for a change and sought to move away from these parts eventually.

In a playful manner, Varma suggested that people might suspect something unusual whenever he’s around, referring to IC 814. He considered IC 814 as a source of pride, almost like a badge of honor. Moreover, he found it exceptional due to the skill of those involved and its depiction of a notable historical event.

When inquired about his preferred acting jobs, he clarified that his interest lies mainly in dramatic movies and characters that push him to his limits. He underscored the importance of a tale that appeals to a large segment of society, ideally reaching the largest audience feasible.

When asked about his romantic affairs, Varma, who made his relationship with actress Tamannaah Bhatia public last year, stated that it was a personal matter they wished to keep private. He further mentioned that he wasn’t disturbed by public attention since he values his privacy and doesn’t want others prying into his personal life. They initially met during the production of Lust Stories 2 (2023), and their romance blossomed soon after the film wrapped up.
