As a lifestyle expert, I truly admire Vijay Varma’s approach to his unique identity. His unwavering focus on his craft and the stories he tells through his performances is commendable. In an industry where physical appearance often plays a significant role, it’s refreshing to see an artist like him who prioritizes his art above his condition.
Actor Vijay Varma, famed for his work in Pink, Mirzapur, and Gully Boy, is preparing for his next venture, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. In a recent conversation, he talked candidly about his vitiligo, explaining that he conceals it during filming to minimize distractions and maintain the audience’s focus on his acting. He also opened up about its personal impact on him. “I have never been casually discussed due to my skin condition,” Vijay mentioned. For those unaware, vitiligo is a skin disorder characterized by the loss of pigmentation, resulting in white patches on the skin.
In a chat with ETimes, actor Vijay Varma discussed his vitiligo and explained that in films, he’s chosen to conceal it because it can be a distraction, and he prefers his audience to focus solely on what he wants them to see. For all his public events, however, he has opted not to hide it for many years. He also expressed that today’s audience is more understanding and considerate. Notably, Varma shared that he hasn’t faced any unfavorable comments about his skin condition.
He additionally discussed managing his situation in an industry that places great emphasis on physical aesthetics. However, he underscored that he hasn’t considered it as a significant hurdle, regarding it more as a superficial concern rather than a life-altering issue. Although it is noticeable, he has opted not to let it become a major worry. In his words, “We often magnify it due to its prominence, but I’ve never really given it that level of importance.”
When questioned about whether his skin condition had any negative impacts on his 12-year career journey in the industry, Vijay Varma shared that initially, it was a worry as he faced difficulties landing roles. He had concerns it might hinder his progress. Yet, once he attained success and solidified his position within his profession, this concern ceased to be a problem for him.
