Vin Diesel Says Paul Walker’s Character May Return for ‘Fast & Furious’ Finale, Having Dom and Brian Reunite

Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner will, indeed, see each other again.

Actor Vin Diesel, known for his role as “Dom” Toretto in the Fast & Furious series, recently visited Cody Walker’s automotive event, Fuel Fest, which was also attended by the late Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner. During the event, Diesel shared insights about what fans can anticipate for the upcoming 11th Fast film.

To kick things off, the actor disclosed a tentative launch date. “Yesterday, I was with Universal Studios and they proposed, ‘Vin, could we possibly have the final installment of Fast & Furious in April 2027?’ I responded, ‘I have three stipulations as I’ve been taking my fanbase’s feedback into account.’

He mentioned, “Firstly, we aim to restore the franchise in Los Angeles.” Then, he continued, “Secondly, our goal is to rekindle the spirit of car culture and street racing.

In conclusion, Diesel’s final request was this: “The third item I desire is bringing Dom and Brian O’Conner back together. This is the climax you’ll witness.

On November 30, 2013, Paul tragically passed away in a car accident in Valencia, California. He was 40 years old. At the time, Paul was reprising his role as Brian in Universal’s Fast & Furious 7. Despite this unfortunate incident, the film managed to conclude the movie by giving his character an appropriate farewell. This was achieved by Dom and Brian having a conversation before driving off in separate directions. To pull this off, the filmmakers employed CGI, VFX artists, Paul’s brothers Cody and Caleb Walker, and created 350 shots.

Joe Letteri, the VFX supervisor, discussed with The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 how they managed to pay tribute to Paul by including his character in the final scene. The key element was the dialogue. According to Letteri, “Most of the CG shots contained some form of dialogue.” This meant that the sound editors had to create Paul’s vocal performance using dialogue from him, and the animators had to animate according to this recording.
