Vin Diesel’s Forgotten Sci-Fi Movie Now Streaming Free!

Once recognized mainly for the blockbuster Fast and Furious series, it’s worth noting that in 2008, Diesel starred in an action sci-fi movie titled that didn’t need his name alone to attract audiences. In this film, he plays a mercenary and former Marine who must escort a young woman through a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Remarkably, this somewhat overlooked action flick is now available for streaming at no cost.

Written and jointly directed by Mathieu Kassovitz (who will discuss his dissociation with the film later), and adapted from the 1999 novel “Babylon Babies” by Maurice Georges Dantec, Babylon A.D. features Vin Diesel alongside Mélanie Thierry, Michelle Yeoh, Lambert Wilson, Mark Strong, Jérôme Le Banner, Charlotte Rampling, and Gérard Depardieu in its star-studded cast. The film “Babylon A.D.” faced severe criticism upon release, with a dismal rating of 7% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics collectively labeled it as a poorly constructed, unoriginal sci-fi flop featuring a weak script and subpar action scenes. Initially, the director Mathieu Kassovitz distanced himself from the movie, accusing 20th Century Fox of meddling with his original vision for the project, going so far as to compare it unfavorably to an average episode of “24.

The film is filled with senseless violence and lacks intelligence. It’s intended to enlighten us about the importance of educating our children for the sake of our planet’s future. However, many action sequences seemed out of place. They were supposed to convey a deeper philosophical perspective or character development… unfortunately, certain parts of the movie resembled an poorly executed episode of 24.

Although the movie Babylon A.D. didn’t fare well, Vin Diesel has since thrived in science fiction action films. Diesel is set to reprise his role as the enigmatic convict and warrior Richard B. Riddick in the upcoming sequel, Riddick: Furya. The actor hinted at grand plans for the future of the Riddick series beyond the fourth film, stating back in September, “The Riddick universe is expanding… so cool. This sci-fi action sequel will delve into the intriguing origins of Diesel’s character, who was first introduced as a mysterious intergalactic convict in the 2000 film Pitch Black.
