Vince Vaughn’s ‘Nonnas’ Trailer: A Hilarious Feast of Family and Food Awaits!

Netflix has released a sneak peek for the upcoming comedy titled “Nonnas“, headlined by Vince Vaughn. This star-studded movie, set to arrive on May 9th on the streaming platform, is guaranteed to bring plenty of chuckles. The story revolves around Joe Scaravella (portrayed by Vaughn), a man who starts a restaurant after losing his mother. To staff this establishment, he hires four Italian grandmothers, affectionately referred to as “nonnas”, to serve as chefs. This heartwarming and humorous drama is inspired by the true story of the owner of Enoteca Maria on Staten Island, whose tale has been adapted for the screen by Liz Maccie (screenwriter) and her husband Stephen Chbosky (director).

The trailer we just watched appears to contain all the necessary elements for an endearing comedy. It seems to be prepared using a mixture of quick humor, lots of sentimental feelings, and a touch of authenticity. A group of four grandmothers, Roberta (Lorraine Bracco), Antonella (Brenda Vaccaro), Teresa (Talia Shire), and Gia (Susan Sarandon) collaborate to share their age-old recipes with the local community, turning it into a tribute to their passion for food, family, and life, in memory of Scaravella’s deceased mother.

In the movie “Nonnas”, Scaravella receives assistance from his closest friend, Bruno (played by Joe Manganiello). Bruno uses his contractor expertise to renovate the restaurant, while his wife Stella (Drea de Matteo) focuses on designing the interior spaces. Additionally, a long-time acquaintance, Olivia (Linda Cardellini), assists with the legal aspects of the business. As per the IMDb page for “Nonnas”, Theodore Helm has been cast as young Joe, and Jack Casey portrays young Bruno. This implies that the narrative might delve into flashbacks showcasing their friendship and lives during their childhood years.

‘Nonnas’ Duo Had the “Greatest Experience” at the Restaurant

Prior to being offered the scriptwriting job, Maccie and her husband spontaneously decided to drop by Enoteca Maria, a genuine restaurant opened in 2007 by Jody “Joe” Scaravella, who named it after his late mother Maria. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Maccie described this visit as an unforgettable experience, albeit one that was somewhat marred at the end of their meal. The couple had just enough money to settle the bill at the cash-only restaurant but were short on tipping their waitress. In a moment of panic, Maccie recalled having $20 in her wallet that she’d kept for personal reasons – it was money from her late mother. But then, she heard a voice inside her urging:

I suggested letting the worry go, setting aside my concerns. I was assured that I would secure the job and she asked me to draft something for her. I responded with a ‘Sure, mom, we’ll tackle this together.’ I placed $20 on the table and received a call the following day confirming that I had indeed landed the job.

In the limelight beyond Nonna’s, Maccie is particularly renowned for her contributions to the supernatural drama series Siren, whereas Chbosky has made a name for himself with previous projects like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Wonder, and Dear Evan Hansen. In their most recent venture, the real-life Jody Scaravella teamed up with them as an executive producer, along with Vaughn, Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin, Leah Gonzalez, Stacy Calabrese, Amanda Morgan Palmer, Scott Budnick, Ameet Shukla, Pam Kirsch, Christopher Slager, and Dan Guando. The team behind this project also includes Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane from Madison Wells, as well as Jack Turner from Matador Content, who seem to have whipped up an exciting concoction with Nonna’s – a production set to debut on Netflix on May 9.
