In an alternate universe, there is a sitting U.S. President who is a complete badass, willing to put their own life on the line to save their country and family. That may not be even close to our reality, but the brand-new trailer for Prime Video’s upcoming action flick G20 gives audiences what they never knew they wanted, but just might need — Viola Davis as an ass-kicking President of the United States. When terrorists hijack a summit filled with the world’s leaders, it’s up to the Academy-Award-winning actress to step up and take charge.
On Wednesday morning, Amazon’s Prime Video unveiled the initial trailer for “G20,” showcasing Viola Davis, renowned from “The Suicide Squad,” as U.S. President Danielle Sutton. With her family and the world in peril, she is compelled to take action when traditional methods fail. Her main antagonist this time is Antony Starr, known for his role as Homelander in “The Boys.” In the series, he portrays a sinister character instead of his usual heroic persona. When the G20 summit is hijacked and hostages are taken in what appears to be a “Deep Fake” operation, President Sutton must locate her family and safeguard the world leaders. The highly-anticipated series, “G20,” will debut on Prime Video on April 10.
During a siege at the G20 summit, U.S. President Danielle Sutton (played by Academy Award winner Viola Davis) finds herself in the crosshairs. Managing to evade capture from the assailants, she embarks on a clever strategy to outmaneuver her adversaries and safeguard her family, uphold her nation’s interests, and secure the safety of world leaders in this gripping and adrenaline-fueled adventure.
Viola Davis Battles Terrorists In ‘G20′ Trailer, But She’s No Stranger to Action
Prior to the G20 event, Viola Davis showcased her action prowess in another critically acclaimed movie. Contrary to expectations, she didn’t get to engage in fisticuffs in the DC Universe’s Suicide Squad films, but she built muscle for The Woman King. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood of The Old Guard fame, The Woman King featured Davis as the commander of an all-female warrior squad in 19th-century West Africa. Apart from getting her hands dirty in action scenes, Davis delivered another compelling dramatic performance, as expected. While the G20 may not be as historically impactful or somber, it suggests that the Academy Award-winning actress is eager to continue working in this genre.
As a passionate cinephile myself, I’ve been following Davis’ journey closely for quite some time now. She’s made a name for herself in blockbuster movie franchises like The Hunger Games and the revamped DC Universe (with her own Max series on the horizon). After amassing a pile of accolades, both in film and television, she’s ready to challenge conventions. In real life, Davis isn’t shy about advocating for change, having supported Kamala Harris during her campaign for the U.S. Presidency last year. It seems like G20 could be the ideal blend of her current artistic pursuits and civic responsibility.
