As a die-hard action flick enthusiast with a soft spot for Christmas classics, I can hardly contain my excitement about David Harbour’s return as Santa Claus in “Violent Night 2“! The first movie was a delightful blend of holiday cheer and high-octane action that left me wanting more, and it seems like the creative team behind this sequel has heard my wish list loud and clear.
David Harbour has officially announced that he will return as the action-packed Santa Claus in a follow-up film to this year’s unique blend of Christmas and action, “Violent Night,” serving as an early festive treat for fans!
Last week’s Instagram post displayed the Stranger Things actor seated before a joyful setting (apparently at a mall), with a Santa look-alike grinning beside him. In his hand, he held a copy of the screenplay for Violent Night 2. His caption read, “Merry Christmas, you filthy creatures,” which was a nod to Home Alone’s fictional film, Angels with Filthy Souls.
The script for this production was penned by the duo, Pat Casey and Josh Miller, who coincidentally shared a sneak peek of the sequel with SYFY WIRE amidst a broader discussion about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (currently in theaters).

Violent Night 2 writers tease David Harbour’s Santa sequel
In a different phrasing: “The initial character seems to inhabit a world reminiscent of ‘Die Hard’. We can’t reveal much more, but we’re aiming to infuse a touch of the Wild West into the story,” Miller commented, adding that they are enthusiastic about how the script is progressing as it undergoes refinement.
Casey expressed that everyone is thrilled about carrying on the journey and adding more action and Christmas cheer to the world, he said this while acknowledging that the 1947 film “Miracle on 34th Street” has significantly inspired the growing series. Intriguingly, they even considered titling the sequel to “Violent Night” as “Bloodshed on 34th Street.” The main responsibility for its production lies with Mr. Harbour.

As the gamer behind Violent Night, I’ve got an exclusive scoop for you. Director Tommy Wirkola shares that we almost got a Mrs. Claus scene after the credits! Can you imagine? It would have been epic!
Miller mentioned that while it’s possible to create artificial snow for Christmas films, David Harbour is quite occupied, so it’s about finding the right opportunity to produce it. In the interim, however, Miller and Casey are thrilled that the first movie has become a traditional holiday viewing choice. They’ve enjoyed seeing people post about watching it every Christmas since its release.
Two years back during our chat, the screenwriters disclosed they had a one-horse open sleigh brimming with concepts for upcoming sequels. Among these ideas were plans to introduce Mrs. Claus, a fresh perspective on the North Pole’s team of toy-making elves, and a more in-depth exploration of Santa’s past as a fierce Viking warrior.
In his statement, director Tommy Wirkola emphasized that in the upcoming sequel, we won’t encounter the North Pole, elves, or Mrs. Claus. The original film was set at a single location, a mansion, and for the sequel, he aims to broaden the scope by exploring more of the world and its characters while maintaining the same level of humor, but not going overboard.
