Vitalik Buterin donates nearly $1m USDC from meme swaps

As a passionate crypto investor, I recently noticed that Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, moved approximately one million units of Circle’s USDC stablecoin into an account linked to his biotech fund donations, specifically the Kanro address.

On January 6th, Vitalik Buterin carried out a set of transactions to convert meme tokens into USDC stablecoin tokens earmarked for charitable donations. The wallet identified as “vitalik.eth” is reported to have sold approximately 28 meme coins, yielding around $984,000 from the transactions, based on available data.

Developers of meme coins frequently transfer free tokens to Vitalik Buterin’s public wallet. This is done either as a promotional tactic or as a gesture of respect towards one of the most well-known figures in the world of blockchain development and leadership.

On occasion, Buterin gets rid of these humorous cryptocurrencies to support charitable initiatives. Sometimes, these sales lead to substantial price drops in the affected tokens. For instance, DINU, a meme coin he disposed of, saw its value plummet by 68% when he exchanged it for USDC.

One of the meme coins, DINU, dropped approximately 68% following a swap by Buterin for USDC tokens that were sent to the Kanro address. Kanro, a biotech fund founded by Buterin in 2023, is one of several methods used by the Ethereum co-founder for charitable giving.

Monitoring services frequently follow Ethereum’s public address associated with Buterin to spot potential charitable contributions or meme token sales. In October, he disposed of Popcat (POPCAT) and other meme tokens for approximately $2.24 million in Ether (ETH).

Additionally, Vitalik Buterin contributed around 10 million Thai Baht, which is equivalent to about $290,000, to the caretakers of popular internet hippo Moo Deng at Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
