As a long-time admirer of Volkswagen, who’s had the privilege of visiting their global headquarters and tasting the magical blend of flavors that is their Gewürz Ketchup, I can wholeheartedly say that this limited release is nothing short of a dream come true! Growing up, I’d often hear tales of this enigmatic condiment from fellow enthusiasts, with its allure only increasing over time.
Volkswagen America has introduced a taste of their German roots to American markets with the limited launch of the renowned VW Gewürz Ketchup. This popular condiment, traditionally used with the beloved VW currywurst, can now be purchased via Volkswagen’s DriverGear online store. However, due to high demand from enthusiastic fans, supplies were quickly depleted.
Since 1996, Volkswagen has been crafting its signature ketchup, initially combining it with their famous currywurst sausage, which originated in 1973 at their Wolfsburg factory for employee meals. This ketchup stands out for its distinctive taste tailored to the miniature sausage dish. Although Volkswagen is primarily known for automobiles, their food products have garnered a loyal fanbase, especially among visitors to their international headquarters.
The launch of the ketchup in the U.S. happens concurrently with Volkswagen’s 75th anniversary events, showcasing tales of devoted fans such as Jamie Orr, who has been importing bottles of this condiment to the U.S. for quite some time now. Those who couldn’t secure a bottle during the limited edition sale will have another opportunity to try it at ChainFEST in Los Angeles on October 5, 2024.
