As an ardent fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the fifth and final season of “The Boys,” scheduled to debut in 2026 on Prime Video. The anticipation is heightened even further by the announcement that a new chapter is being added to this captivating satirical superhero saga. Building upon the success of spin-offs like “The Boys Presents: Diabolical” and “Gen V,” a prequel series titled “Vought Rising” is now in production.
The upcoming series will delve into Vought International’s murky past, revealing how it exploited superheroes for financial gain, with a focus on its founding years and the development of the controversial Compound V serum during World War II. Notably, characters like Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash), who have appeared before, will return to star in this new chapter, thereby connecting it to the expanding universe.
In the spotlight now, with two problematic Supes and an emerging malicious corporation central to “Vought Rising“, viewers can anticipate even more of the candid, unfiltered view on power that they’ve grown fond of from “The Boys “. Here is a roundup of everything currently known about this spin-off, including details on its progress, cast members, and potential storylines.
Production and Release Updates
The upcoming series, titled “Vought Rising,” is said to be gearing up for production with filming expected to start in New York later this year. Consequently, it’s anticipated that the show will debut on Amazon Prime Video sometime around late 2026 or early 2027. Nevertheless, this tentative schedule might adjust if unexpected delays occur due to the second season of “Gen V” airing this year and “The Boys” concluding its run in 2026.
The spin-off will feature Paul Grellong taking on the role of showrunner in collaboration with Eric Kripke, who first introduced the franchise to television screens. This production will be a joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Additionally, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, and Michaela Starr will serve as producers. Many of these individuals were instrumental in creating the popular original series.
The Cast of ‘Vought Rising’
As a movie buff, I can’t help but get excited about the latest updates on “Vought Rising”. Although they haven’t disclosed the full cast yet, it’s clear that we’ll see both familiar and fresh faces in this new venture. In Season 3 of “The Boys”, you may recall Jensen Ackles playing the vengeful Soldier Boy, a character I can’t wait to see more of. And if you remember, Aya Cash brought Stormfront (or Klara Risinger) to life in a captivating performance. As the first successful Super created by Compound V inventor Frederick Vought, who she was also married to, her return is certainly something to look forward to. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if any other beloved characters will make a comeback as well.
In similar fashion, the creators have unveiled three fresh faces joining the cast of Vought Rising. The upcoming prequel series welcomes actors such as Will Hochman, known for his work in Blue Bloods, and Elizabeth Posey from Euphoria, whose roles have yet to be revealed. Additionally, the hit series Stranger Things‘ star, Mason Dye, has been cast as Bombsight. This character, another Vought creation, is set to make his debut in Season 5 of The Boys and then reappear in the upcoming spin-off. With the show not slated for release until late 2026 or early 2027, these casting announcements hint that we can expect many more new characters to look forward to as fans.
A Bloody Murder Mystery Set in the 1950s
Last summer at San Diego Comic Con, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Vought Rising was first unveiled. As a producer, I couldn’t help but stir up fans for this exciting prequel spin-off. The show, you see, revolves around a gripping murder mystery that unfolds as Vought International rises in power during the 1950s. It delves into the early exploits of Soldier Boy and Stormfront, promising a tantalizing, gruesome tale soaked in blood and Compound V. For long-time fans of our franchise, this means a fresh, unapologetic story that captures all the raw intensity and popularity of the original series.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I must admit that specific details about the plot of “Vought Rising” remain under wraps for now. Nevertheless, the buzz among viewers revolves around potential storylines involving Soldier Boy and Stormfront, the series’ leading duo. It seems we’ll delve deeper into Soldier Boy’s past, tracing his journey from being injected with Vought’s Compound V to becoming the first American superhero, a clear reference to Captain America. Given that Vought propaganda claimed he rose from humble beginnings when he was actually a privileged child turned superhero, I can’t wait to see how “Vought Rising” unfolds his backstory and sheds light on the truth behind his rise to fame.
In much the same way that Stormfront was unmasked as a long-standing Nazi figure, delving into her past could provide insight into earlier acts of wrongdoing, and also introduce Chloe, her daughter who came into being during those times. Even though Stormfront is a villain, she had deep familial ties, so it’s intriguing to envision her portrayed in a maternal light.
Ideally, the creators should avoid the pitfall of over-emphasizing audience empathy for evil characters similar to what some prequel series have done. A compelling antagonist is vital for a strong narrative, but excessive humanization of a character like Stormfront, who is a murderous racist with a god complex, might detract from the suffering she inflicted in the original series and throughout her life. Although Stormfront is a complex villain, she remains a villain, much like many of the Supes, and Vought Rising should not lose sight of this fact to ensure viewers don’t forget it.
