As a lifelong fan of Wallace & Gromit, I must say that “Vengeance Most Fowl” is a delightful addition to the series. The film beautifully captures the charm and wit that have made these characters so beloved for generations. Growing up with Wallace and Gromit in my living room, I can’t help but feel nostalgic as I watch their latest adventure unfold.
The film’s plot, revolving around the dangers of technology, is especially relevant in today’s world where AI and automation are increasingly prevalent. The themes of excess and vulnerability resonate with me, as I find myself grappling with similar issues in my own life. It’s a sobering reminder that even the most advanced technology can have unintended consequences.
One of the things that sets “Vengeance Most Fowl” apart from other films is its humor. The jokes are cleverly woven into the story, and they never feel forced or out of place. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times throughout the film, which was a welcome surprise.
Overall, “Vengeance Most Fowl” is a must-watch for any Wallace & Gromit fan. It’s a thought-provoking film that will leave you with something to think about long after the credits roll. And if you’re looking for a good laugh, this film won’t disappoint. Just remember, as they say in the world of Wallace & Gromit, “Never trust a machine with a mind of its own!
Ever since their first appearance in the 1989 stop-motion animated short film, “Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out,” the heartwarming duo from Aardman Animations – an Oscar-winning pair of a British inventor and his loyal dog – have left me spellbound. They’ve starred in numerous short films, and I must not forget their feature film debut, “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.” Now, I can’t wait to catch up with them again, as they’re back on the big screen, streaming exclusively on Netflix!
In the adventure titled “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl“, Wallace unveils his latest creation – the versatile odd-jobbing robot named Norbot, often recognized as such. However, their longtime adversary, the cunning penguin Feathers McGraw, is plotting revenge. You might remember Feathers McGraw from the 1993 short film “Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers“, where he attempted to swipe the Blue Diamond. Currently incarcerated in a zoo, Feathers manages to tamper with the original Norbot design, converting it into an evil version and manufacturing more Norbots.
A Chase for the Blue Diamond
At roughly midpoint in the film, it was revealed that the mischievous Norbots had swiped numerous belongings from the local community, causing trouble for poor Wallace who was held responsible for their misdeeds. The authorities paid a visit to Wallace’s residence with a search warrant, but they failed to locate the Norbots. Instead, they confiscated all of Wallace’s inventions as potential evidence.
In a different turn of phrase: Gromit distrusts the Norbots and decides to retrieve the Norbot tracker from the police station. He utilizes this tracker to locate the Norbots who are traveling to the zoo in a homemade submarine. There, they save Feathers McGraw and manage to change the Norbot’s behavior by falling together, which resets its programming and makes it good once more.
Gromit and Norbot employ the Norbot tracker to trail Feathers and the mischievous Norbots. Gromit suspects that Feathers intends to pilfer the Blue Diamond, as it has been exhibited publicly at the museum. However, the grand opening unveils a startling twist – the gemstone has been exchanged for a turnip. The tracker then indicates that Feathers is, in fact, making his way towards Wallace’s residence.
Inside their home, Gromit gets deceived by a Norbot disguised as Wallace. This cunning Norbot binds both Wallace and Gromit to a moving chair. Then, it is disclosed by Feathers McGraw that during their captivity in The Wrong Trousers, he secreted the Blue Diamond inside a teapot. Before the duo can react, Feathers and the malicious Norbots flee in Wallace’s “Gnome Improvement” vehicle, leaving Gromit and Wallace powerless.
No One Can Tear Wallace and Gromit Apart
In the residence of Wallace and Gromit, the original Norbot is present, yet turns out to be unassisting as he’s preoccupied with cleaning. He places a leaf blower close to Wallace and Gromit, which clever canine Gromit employs to move the chair and Norbot out of the house. Eventually, Wallace and Gromit manage to follow the van, but Feathers, in a frenzy, crashes the vehicle and hastens towards a boat nearby.
In their pursuit of Feathers, Wallace devises a speedy gadget to hurl boots at the mischievous Norbots, effectively disabling them upon impact. As Feathers attempts to escape, Gromit ties both boats together using a rope, causing an unexpected surge that sends Wallace tumbling off the boat. He holds on with a rope, makeshift skis, and a life jacket, even encountering the farmer from Shaun the Sheep during his thrilling journey.
As PC Mukherjee commands a blockade among my fellow officers along the water’s edge, I find myself boarding one of the boats accompanied by Feathers. In our hands, we clutch the coveted Blue Diamond. With no escape in sight, Feathers deliberately crashes the boat against a towering bridge, placing me in a precarious situation with a plunge to my doom looming. Wallace, in a desperate plea, shouts for me to surrender the diamond and save myself, expressing his deep sentiment: “I may be able to survive without inventing, but I can’t live without my dearest companion.
As someone who has spent a good part of my life dealing with tricksters and deceivers, I can tell you that this situation reminds me all too well of one of those times when I was fooled by a cunning character. The story unfolds like a classic case of bait-and-switch, where Gromit, the loyal companion, is left to face danger while Feathers gets away with the precious diamond. However, it turns out that Gromit had been holding onto the Blue Diamond all along, making me think about the importance of trust and loyalty in friendship. It’s a valuable lesson that reminds us to always look beyond appearances and be vigilant when dealing with suspicious characters.
Vengeance Most Fowl Shows Dangers of Technology
During the entirety of the movie “Vengeance Most Fowl,” the theme is subtly conveyed that excessive use of technology can be harmful. Wallace’s creation of Norbots serves as an allegory for the rise of artificial intelligence. At first, the Norbot assists Gromit with his gardening, but in doing so, it takes away the pleasure Gromit finds in the hobby – a parallel to how AI may diminish the joy that artists derive from their craft. The central narrative also explores the vulnerability of technology itself. When Feathers McGraw easily gains access to Wallace’s computer, the Norbots are corrupted and turn against him. As they unite, they grow stronger and harder to control. They even possess disturbing abilities such as voice mimicking.
In the movie, Wallace’s simplified inventions are significant to its overall message. During the investigation, his inventions get confiscated by the police, leaving him struggling even with basic household chores such as brewing tea. The film concludes with Wallace acknowledging that he has invented too much, rendering him incapable of performing simple tasks. In a touching moment at the end, he chooses to abandon his Pat-O-Matic machine and instead pats Gromit traditionally on the head, admitting that “there are certain things a machine simply cannot replicate.
It’s uncertain if Wallace and Gromit will appear in more films due to their clay manufacturer closing down in November 2023. Aardman Animations, their studio, purchased a significant amount of clay when the manufacturer went bankrupt, but it’s only expected to last them two years. As a result, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, currently streaming on Netflix, might be your final chance to watch this beloved duo. So, don’t miss out and enjoy the movie!
