Warner Bros. Discovery is streamlining its gaming sector by closing down three of its studios, as they aim to concentrate more on specific creative assets that are central to their business.
Regarding the company’s restructuring, it was additionally disclosed that they are halting the production of their “Wonder Woman” game, a project initially unveiled in 2021. Instead, the company intends to concentrate on creating top-tier games based on their primary franchises such as “Harry Potter”, “Mortal Kombat”, DC Comics, and “Game of Thrones”, according to a representative from Warner Bros. Games.
The representative noted that as part of the recent adjustments, three gaming studios under the company’s umbrella – Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego – will be closed down. Notably, Monolith was working on the development of the Wonder Woman game.
The representative stated that our aim was to offer players and enthusiasts an unparalleled experience with this renowned character, but regrettably, it no longer aligns with our strategic objectives. This decision is difficult because we acknowledge Monolith’s rich legacy of crafting extraordinary games that captivate fans.
As a dedicated admirer, I want to clarify that this shift in course is not a judgment on the teams’ merit or the outstanding talent they harbor. On the contrary, we hold immense respect for their unwavering passion and are deeply grateful to each employee for their invaluable contributions. Although today may be tough, our sights remain fixed on returning to crafting exceptional games for our devoted fanbase, which is made possible by our extraordinary studios. Our ultimate goal is to restore profitability and growth to our Games division by 2025 and beyond.
