Warner Bros. Drops Genndy Tartakovsky’s Animated Movie ‘Fixed’ as Sony Hunts for New Buyer

As a long-time fan of Genndy Tartakovsky’s work, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing the news about Warner Bros. Discovery dropping the completed film, “Fixed.” Tartakovsky has always had a knack for creating unique and captivating animated stories, from his work on classics like “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “The Powerpuff Girls,” to more recent projects like “Primal” and “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal.”

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to hear that “Fixed” isn’t disappearing from our radar! It seems Warner Bros. Discovery has chosen to abandon the movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s game over for us fans. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get another chance to see it soon!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the animated film by director and co-writer Genndy Tartakovsky will not be released by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). Originally a collaboration between Sony Pictures Animation and New Line, the movie was initially intended for release on HBO Max, but due to changes in ownership at WBD, it seems it won’t be coming out as planned. The merger that brought David Zaslav to run WBD occurred before 2022.

Working together with the Fixed team, WBD assisted in meeting the production expenses and facilitated the search for a new potential buyer for the filmmakers. The rights for the movie Fixed have been returned to its producer, Sony, who is currently marketing the project.

As a longtime fan of animated films and a dog lover, I must say that I am genuinely excited about the upcoming adult-focused animated film “Fixed”. Having had several beloved pets over the years, including a bloodhound, I can appreciate the unique perspective this movie brings to the table. The fact that it features voice talents like Adam DeVine, Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan and Beck Bennett only adds to its allure.

As a longtime fan of Looney Tunes and action movies, I was truly looking forward to the release of “Coyote vs. Acme.” The idea of a live-action/CGI hybrid featuring Wile E. Coyote, starring John Cena and Will Forte, sounded like an exciting blend of comedy and action that would have appealed to both kids and adults alike. However, I was disappointed when I heard that Warner Bros. decided not to release the movie, instead choosing to keep it on the shelf for a tax write-off.

Tartakovsky, known for collaborating with Michelle Murdocca on the film “Fixed”, served as its director based on a script he co-wrote with Jon Vitti. With an extensive background at Warner Bros., Tartakovsky has contributed to shows like “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “The Powerpuff Girls” for Cartoon Network, as well as “Primal” and “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal” for Adult Swim. This year, he also participated in Adult Swim’s presentation at the Annecy Animation Festival held in France.

In the latest quarter, WBD announced a loss of $107 million in their direct-to-consumer sector, as they persistently grapple with financial difficulties.

Tartakovsky has previously collaborated with Sony, serving as director for the initial trilogy of their ‘Hotel Transylvania’ animated series, which counts Adam Sandler among its voice actors.

At the 2023 presentation in Annecy, Tartakovsky hinted at the risqué humor in the R-rated film “Fixed”. He jokingly commented, “Beyond the jokes about genitals and anatomy, there’s a lot of emotion there.”

Puck was first to report the news.
