Yet, during a parliamentary meeting on July 29, she became visibly upset when the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh, referred to her by her original surname instead.
During the latest gathering, the seasoned actress identified herself as Jaya Amitabh Bachchan and responded when Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his appreciation towards both her and Amitabh Bachchan.
In a video posted by NDTV India, the Vice President expressed his admiration for both Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, causing her to giggle and show respect. In another instance, Jaya playfully referred to herself as “I am Jaya, Amitabh Bachchan,” wrapping up the session in a cheerful mood with some laughter.

Recently, Mr. Harivansh referred to a script and politely asked Jaya Amitabh Bachchan, “Madam Jaya Bachchan, if you don’t mind,” to which she promptly replied that calling her just ‘Jaya Bachchan’ would have been fine. He then explained that he had used her formal name as registered.
Jaya Bachchan voiced her worries in Hindi, commenting that it’s unfortunate when women are often known more for their spouses than themselves, a practice she believes undermines their unique identities and accomplishments.
