As a long-time gamer and movie enthusiast, I was absolutely blown away by the trailer for Anora. The fact that this film, directed by Sean Baker, took home the Palme d’Or at Cannes this year is a testament to its exceptional storytelling and captivating performances. I was hooked from the very first frame of the trailer, which showcases Mikey Madison’s character Anora/Ani as a stripper, and Mark Eidelstein’s character Ivan “Vanya” Zakharov, the son of a Russian oligarch, falling in love and eloping.
Neon has released the trailer for Anora, the Palme d’Or winner at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Sean Baker directs the comedy-drama with Mikey Madison portraying Anora/Ani, a dancer at a strip club, and Mark Eidelstein as Ivan Zakharov, the son of a wealthy Russian businessman. In a swift turn of events, Ani and Ivan fall deeply in love and get married. However, Ivan’s parents disapprove and travel to New York to pressure him into annulling the marriage.
At the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, an American movie was the Palme d’Or recipient for the first time since 2011. The film’s premiere ended with a prolonged, 10-minute standing ovation from the audience.
Watch the trailer above. Anora premieres October 18 in the United States.
