Watch The Trailer for A24’s ‘Y2K’ Directed by Kyle Mooney

As someone who vividly remembers the Y2K hysteria and spent countless hours playing with my Tamagotchi, Barbie Jeep, and other 90s tech, I am absolutely thrilled by the trailer for A24’s upcoming comedy masterpiece, “Y2K”. The nostalgia is palpable, and the creative twist of these innocent devices turning into lethal weapons is both terrifying and hilarious.

The first trailer for A24’s upcoming comedy movie Y2K has been released. The film stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison and Alicia Silverstone with Kyle Mooney writing and directing.

In this story, set at a high school New Year’s Eve party on the brink of the new millennium, things take an unexpected turn as midnight approaches. The trailer hints at the ensuing chaos when the clock strikes twelve. Unlike the real-life Y2K bug that only caused minor computer glitches, this film portrays a catastrophic technological collapse due to the Y2K bug in a full-blown apocalyptic scenario.

When the power goes out, bizarre technology from the 2000s starts killing off the teens in inventive ways. For instance, a Barbie toy Jeep ignites one teen, while a Tamagotchi claims another life. The main group, having left the house party, soon realizes that the world is ablaze and technology has assumed control.

As I watched the thrilling sneak peek unfold, it was packed with hilarious skirmishes, colossal tech foes, and a flood of nostalgia. Towards the trailer’s finale, Mooney made his entrance, embodying a laid-back stoner character who interacts with the youthful cast. To top it all off, the trailer concluded with the iconic 90s anthem Tubthumping by Chumbawamba, leaving me in awe of this musical reference at the end.

Y2K comes out on December 6 and you can watch the trailer above.
