As a die-hard Stephen King fan with decades of horror literature under my belt, I must admit that the trailer for Osgood Perkins’ upcoming movie “The Monkey” has piqued my interest like never before!
In the lengthy filmography of Stephen King adaptations, there’s a fair share of humor, from the deliberate kitschiness of Creepshow to the over-the-top silliness of Maximum Overdrive. However, comedy is seldom the primary focus. Instead, audiences are more accustomed to fear and drama with King’s work. Nonetheless, Osgood Perkins’ upcoming movie The Monkey appears set to blaze new trails when it premieres early next year, as the initial trailer suggests a unique blend of horror alongside an unexpectedly quirky tone.
In summer 2024, Perkins is most recognized for producing the chilling horror sensation, “Longlegs,” an adaptation of a Stephen King short story. However, unlike its source material and the movie’s grim tone, “The Monkey” seems to be heading in a completely different direction. While there’s plenty of gore and violence, it’s delivered with a playful twist that hints at enjoyable moments to follow.
