‘We are all bhands’: Nawazuddin Siddiqui gets too candid with response to people complaining about actors dancing at wedding

In a recent conversation, the actor opened up about criticisms directed towards actors participating in dancing at wedding events. He further pointed out that actors as a group are more like ‘bhand’ (a term implying a close-knit community).

In a recent chat with the All About Eve YouTube channel, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was inquired if he’d have any qualms about dancing at social events like parties or weddings. Responding frankly, the Kick actor expressed that such activities are simply “a part of their job.

He stated, “Indeed, why not? There’s no issue with it. It’s a component of our craft. Critics may question actors dancing at weddings, but remember, we are all ‘bhands,’ or folk entertainers.

In simpler terms, the actor clarified that historically, these individuals were often excluded from social interactions. They were viewed as negative influences and were typically housed in tents located beyond the village boundaries. He added that they were summoned to perform only when required, and payment was made immediately following their performance.

Nawaz clarified that ‘bhands’ were once excluded from society due to their independent and free-spirited nature. He pointed out that today, actors possess wealth, recognition, and luxurious lifestyles, which makes them desire societal acceptance. As he put it, “They express discomfort when people criticize them for dancing at weddings, but the ‘bhands’ behavior persists.

Apart from discussing other topics, he also shared his story of filming the renowned song “Emotional Atyachaar” from Abhay Deol’s Dev D. He revealed that he traveled to Chandigarh specifically to shoot this song at Anurag Kashyap’s request.

Despite his discomfort with the makeup and costume, the actor from Costao recalled hearing a song just prior to filming, unexpectedly asked to dance on stage impromptu.

In his professional life, Nawaz recently appeared in the biographical drama movie titled “Costao.” This production, helmed by director Sejal Shah, was launched this month and can now be streamed on Zee 5.
