As an analyst with extensive experience in the tech industry and a keen interest in global safety concerns, I find Haichao Zhu’s harrowing incident in Bangkok both alarming and enlightening. While it is unfortunate that such an event took place, I appreciate Haichao’s courage in sharing his story, as it serves as a valuable lesson for all tourists.
As an analyst, I recently learned that Haichao Zhu, CEO of Rooch Network, was unfortunately mugged at knifepoint in Bangkok during his preparations for the upcoming annual Ethereum summit, Devcon. This unfortunate event transpired, prompting him to caution tourists about walking alone after dark in Bangkok. The much-anticipated Devcon event is set to commence on November 12th.
Haichao recounted an occurrence he encountered in X post and advised others to exercise caution when strolling on the streets at night. He also emphasized that Bangkok remains a lively and secure destination, but, like any other city, it’s crucial to stay alert for potential risks lurking in the darkness.
The creator of Rooch Network, Jolestar, who was present alongside Zhu during the occurrence, expressed gratitude towards the police officers for their assistance. He commended them, stating they were exceptionally friendly and had no difficulties in speaking English.
In the spirit of transparency, I felt compelled to share my recent ordeal as a crypto investor. Just like Jole’s advice, I would encourage others to prioritize safety when out and about. Instead of talking on the phone while walking, I now make it a point to meet with friends in well-lit areas during the day, reducing potential risks. It’s crucial we all take precautions to ensure our well-being amidst this dynamic digital landscape.
Haichao explained that he had been left at an incorrect spot by a taxi and was making his way to his Airbnb. As he followed directions on his phone, two men riding a motorcycle came up to him. One of them brandishing a knife, snatched his phone and tried to grab his luggage but couldn’t. Haichao ended up with a small wound on his hand from the incident.
A Good Samaritan assisted him in reaching out to the authorities, who subsequently guided him back to his Airbnb and later accompanied him to the police station to submit a statement. At a later time, law enforcement officers examined the crime and returned to the location with him to gather evidence.
Finally, Zhu advised everyone to prioritize safety during the event, avoid showing valuable items, and always be prepared with an alternate plan should any emergencies arise.
