As Season 2 of this series airs later in the year, audiences can expect a more chilling experience. Intriguingly, the makers have hinted that the new season will be significantly darker compared to the previous one.
In a chat with Miles Millar, the creator of “Wednesday”, he discussed the upcoming darker direction of the show. He mentioned, “There are certain scenes that could easily be from a horror movie,” and further added, “We had those in Season 1, but I believe this season will have moments that are incredibly intense.
Millar later admitted that “Wednesday” appeals to viewers of all ages, noting that the producers took this into account while developing the series. He stated, “Season 2 does contain some scenes that are more traditional horror elements, but we’re mindful that our audience spans a wide range of age groups.” So, we strive to avoid excessive gore, while still maintaining an edge that underscores the seriousness and danger in this world, and creates moments of genuine fear. This is the unique balance between comedy and horror that the show achieves.
The series “Wednesday” was given another chance with a second season all the way back in January 2023, not long after it initially aired. Although it’s taken some time for new episodes to air, fans of this franchise won’t have to wait much longer: the second season is set to premiere on Netflix split into two parts, with the first part arriving on August 6 and the second part on September 3.
As a devoted cinephile eagerly awaiting Season 2 of Wednesday, I can’t help but get excited about the new faces joining the cast! Alongside Jenna Ortega in the leading role, we’ll be seeing Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Billie Piper, Crystopher Lloyd, and more. Creator Millar hinted that they aimed to push boundaries and explore where these characters could go. With such a long wait, it’s crucial that we’re not left feeling let down!
Wednesday Showrunners Tease Season 2’s Mystery Plot
In the initial series of “Wednesday“, the main character ventures to Nevermore Academy, an exclusive school for misfits, where she struggles to connect with others and unravels a murder enigma in the process. Showrunner Alfred Gough hints that when it resumes, the show will maintain its focus on mystery but with a surprise element. “The mystery is more intricate than Season 1, but I also feel like the world is broader, allowing us to delve deeper into other characters,” Gough suggests cryptically.
Among these characters, Enid stands out as a beloved breakthrough figure. Initially presented as a contrast to Wednesday’s enigmatic darkness, her vibrant and sunny disposition has made a deep impact on viewers. Soon, fans will delve deeper into the character’s hidden, darker aspects. As for Wednesday, she doesn’t appear in every scene, so you’ll have an opportunity to explore more about another character, Bianca (played by Joy Sunday), according to the showrunner.
The first part of Wednesday Season 2 arrives on Netflix on Aug 6.
