Actor Vijay Raaz is well-known in Bollywood. In 2020, he faced allegations of sexual harassment against a female colleague during the filming of Sherni, starring Vidya Balan. However, five years later, on May 15, 2025, a court in Maharashtra cleared him of these charges.
Based on a report by PTI, the court in Maharashtra has exonerated Vijay Raaz from the sexual harassment charges brought against him in 2020. The Gondia court determined that the prosecution did not provide enough evidence to substantiate the allegations made in this case.
Consequently, Magistrate Mahendra Sorte dismissed all charges brought against the actor under Sections 354-A (sexual harassment) and 354-D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). As per a report by Hindustan Times, the court found that the investigating officer failed to carry out any additional inquiry.
In other words, since the proof provided by the prosecution seemed unconvincing and the CCTV footage wasn’t clear enough to show the accused committing the supposed crime, the court couldn’t establish the accused’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore, due to insufficient evidence, the Dream Girl 2 actor was found not guilty.
Following the court’s ruling, Saveena Bedi Sachar, the actor’s lawyer, commented that Vijay was in Nagpur filming Sherni when the case arose. Not only did he have to abruptly end his shoot, but he also lost subsequent opportunities. With the court now clearing him of any wrongdoing, she hopes this serves as a wake-up call for those who presume innocence is already lost at the mere mention of allegations. About the case:
The complaint was submitted at the Ramnagar police station located in Gondia. It was claimed that Raaz carried out the crime between the evening of October 25, 2020, and the morning of October 29, 2020. The accuser declared that the event transpired in a hotel where the team was lodging. Subsequently, he was apprehended on November 4, 2020, in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, but granted bail later that day.
