As a long-time fan of the Harry Potter series and someone who grew up watching the movies, it was heartwarming to see Chris Columbus revisit the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London. It feels like he’s returning home to his baby that he helped bring to life over two decades ago.
Over the past ten years, the “Harry Potter” movie series was overseen by various directors including Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates. However, it’s important to acknowledge that Chris Columbus, an American filmmaker, initiated the franchise’s box office success by directing the first two films. In a delightful twist, Columbus made a surprise visit to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London. When word got out, fans expressed heartfelt comments.
Initiating the Wizarding World film series, Chris Columbus played a significant role by establishing the franchise’s distinctive tone. Directing the initial two films, he later served as co-producer for “The Prisoner of Azkaban,” delegating directing tasks to Alfonso Cuarón, a Mexican filmmaker. Although Columbus parted ways with the magical series over a decade ago, it appears that Harry Potter remains dear to his heart. Recently, he expressed fond memories on Instagram about visiting the Warner Bros Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter.

It’s a treat to see the director of “Mrs. Doubtfire” at the London Studio Tour. It’s as if he’s coming to revisit his beloved creation. The opportunity to view sets like The Forbidden Forest, The Great Hall, and an expanded Gringotts Wizarding Bank up close would undoubtedly bring him great joy. Visitors can also get a detailed look at the costumes and props, which for franchise enthusiasts might evoke strong feelings of nostalgia.
If you find yourself getting sentimental as you observe Chris Columbus outside the London Studio Tour, remember you’re not the only one feeling this way. Instagram users have expressed similar heartfelt emotions. Browse through some of the moving comments underneath to see how much fans adore the “Home Alone” director’s visit:

- Welcome home Chris!- @roguedanhartley
- THE ONE WHO SET THE TONE WENT BACK ❤️❤️❤️- @thenuaraclara
- Thank you for being the one who best understood the Harry Potter books and for creating the most faithful aesthetic to what J.K. Rowling imagined.-@coleccionistaharrypotter
Looking through all these comments, I can’t help but feel emotional as some of them portray Chris Columbus as being “back home.” For me, he is my preferred choice among the Harry Potter directors. This is due to his unique style that aligns most closely, in my viewpoint, with J.K. Rowling’s vision for the series.
Chris Columbus took on a significant challenge while directing “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” being the first filmmaker to bring J.K. Rowling’s beloved fantasy book series to the big screen. After discussing his plans for the film with her, Rowling was reassured by Columbus’s vision, boosting his confidence. Columbus has mentioned his desire to direct “The Cursed Child” adaptation, a prospect I find exciting. Regardless of whether he continues in the franchise or not, it’s heartening that he remains passionate about it and continues to receive warm reception.
