On Tuesday, Wendy Williams phoned into ‘The Breakfast Club’, a morning radio show in New York, to discuss the events of the previous day, which involved her being transferred from the care home she’s staying at to a New York hospital for an examination following reports about it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the NYPD verified they were called for a wellness check at the residence of Williams’ assisted living center.
Since 2023, when he was diagnosed with dementia, Williams has been living in an assisted living facility. A court-appointed caregiver, Sabrina Morrissey, filed legal documents in November 2024 stating that Williams is cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally unable to make decisions for himself.
Since then, Williams has publicly expressed her disagreement with her guardianship, making an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” in January. During the interview, she stated that she is not cognitively impaired and feels like she’s being held captive, akin to being in a prison.
On Tuesday, Williams made a call to “The Breakfast Club” and spoke with Ginalisa Monterroso of the Connect Care Advisory Group, who helps guide elderly individuals through complex healthcare scenarios.
Williams explained to the NYPD officers that she was not in a state of incapacitation. She went on to clarify, “You see, I’ve been mistakenly accused, and the floor where I reside is the memory unit – the residents there don’t remember things, unlike me. It’s as if I’m asking for help, wondering ‘Why am I here? What’s happening?’
As a gamer, I recently penned a letter to Adult Protective Services, requesting an investigation into some concerning situations regarding Williams’ care. On the latest episode of the radio show, I shared with Charlamagne tha God how I managed to get the NYPD involved and have them remove Williams from that facility.
Yesterday morning, during our morning meeting, I informed Wendy that we would contact the police and speak with them. Specifically, we’d share with them that she is currently in isolation. Additionally, it should be noted that our building’s guardian has announced to the entire building and the world that she is unable to function properly.
In Williams’ room, Monterroso asked for an independent medical examination of Williams. However, the facility was unwilling to comply with this request. Instead, they suggested that tests could be performed on-site. Both Monterroso and Williams disagreed with this proposal, sharing their concerns on a radio show. Eventually, Monterroso persisted, leading NYPD officers to call an ambulance, which transported Williams away from the building for the examination.
At that juncture, Monterroso contacted Williams’ legal representative, who journeyed from Long Island to the New York medical facility upon hearing from her that the former talk-show host was in a confined situation. On Tuesday, Williams continued to stay in the hospital while she participated in the morning program via call, as she and Monterroso detailed how a heated confrontation ensued regarding a cognitive assessment for Williams, which involved Morrissey, who had also made his way to the hospital, along with Williams’ attorney.
Monterroso clarified that there was some debate about whether Morrissey would consent to Wendy being assessed. The doctor noticed a discrepancy between the guardian’s viewpoint and the lawyer’s perspective, so they needed to seek advice from their hospital’s legal team to resolve the issue.
Monterroso and Willians stated that the decision-making ability tests were aced, as all 10 questions were responded to accurately.
The current state regarding Williams’ housing and her conservatorship remains undecided. At present, both the APS (Aging and Physical Disability Resource Center) and the NYPD (New York Police Department) are actively looking into Williams’ circumstances.
On Tuesday, calls made to Morrissey and Monterroso by The Hollywood Reporter went unanswered. On the same day, Monterroso offered a few comments regarding Morrissey in light of Williams’ ongoing struggle.
She referred to it as an ancient trick used by Jedi Masters, “a mind game.” Her intention was to deceive everyone into thinking Wendy was powerless. She kept Wendy confined, but allowed her to take calls. The key oversight was that she underestimated Wendy Williams’ influence and reach. Indeed, Wendy hosts a show like the Breakfast Club, boasts a vast network of connections, and there are those who will rally behind her.
