One of Wesley Snipes‘ less-celebrated films from his time as Blade is now accessible to stream for free. Known primarily for his portrayal of the Marvel vampire hunter, which he reprised in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Snipes delivers a captivating performance as a boxer imprisoned in the action/boxing/prison drama titled “[Title]“. This movie is now yours to explore without cost, and it’s worth giving another watch.
First released in 2002, “Undisputed” was created by Walter Hill, known for movies such as ’70s chiller “The Warriors” and the “Alien” series. The film stars as George “The Iceman” Chambers and Wesley Snipes as Monroe “Undisputed” Hutchen, two fighters who engage in a battle while serving time in prison. Other notable actors in the cast include Peter Falk, Michael Rooker, Jon Seda, Wes Studi, Fisher Stevens, and Master P. Starting from March 1, you can stream “Undisputed” on , and here’s a brief summary of its plot:
(Official synopsis below)
A former world-boxing champion, found guilty of rape and incarcerated, now faces the challenge of battling the current boxing king inside the prison.
Initially controversial upon release, “Undisputed” garnered mixed reviews, with 49% from professional critics and 46% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the critical consensus, while it might not be the most intellectually stimulating boxing film, “Undisputed” managed to achieve its goal of simply being a typical genre movie. At times, such a straightforward genre piece can be just what you’re looking for.
‘Undisputed’ Launched a Martial Arts Action Franchise
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about the evolution of the “Undisputed” franchise. Originally rooted in intense dramatic elements, this series has remarkably transitioned into an electrifying martial arts action extravaganza. The second installment, “Undisputed II: Last Man Standing,” released in 2006, reimagined the character George “The Iceman” Chambers as Michael Jai White’s wrongfully imprisoned boxer. This time around, he finds himself squaring off against Scott Adkins’ Yuri Boyka, a self-proclaimed ‘most complete fighter in the world,’ in a Russian prison setting.
After assuming control of the franchise, Adkins has been at the helm for films like “Undisputed III: Redemption” (2010) and “Boyka: Undisputed” (2017). Now, with his recent role in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” Adkins is expressing interest in stepping back into the ring once more. He’s keen on bringing back his character, Boyka, for another fight. In response to fans’ queries about a potential “Undisputed 5,” Adkins has expressed his willingness to reprise the role of Boyka, stating, “Yes, I would. We attempted it a few years ago but couldn’t get the producers onboard. I believe Boyka is a complex character and there’s still a compelling story to tell.
Regarding Wesley Snipes, who served 28 months in prison due to tax evasion charges, the actor reprised his role as Blade, first appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as The Daywalker in the chaotic multiverse adventure known as Deadpool & Wolverine. At this point, it’s uncertain if he will play the character again, as a reboot featuring Mahershala Ali is planned for release at some point. Many fans, including Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, are eagerly anticipating a fitting solo farewell for Snipes’ interpretation of Blade.
