Karan Johar announced in 2020 that Takht was going to be a period drama starring actors like Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, among others, with a planned release date of Christmas 2021. Unfortunately, the film didn’t get made. But recently, Karan Johar has given an update that has sparked optimism about its potential future production.
During an interview with Galatta Plus, Karan Johar discussed the status of his movie Takht. He explained that there were various factors preventing its production. When asked if it had been permanently shelved, Johar clarified that it hadn’t. He expressed, “Takht is a film I plan to make someday; it currently remains on my desk.
Karan mentioned that he regrettably couldn’t contribute to the project due to multiple factors, preferring not to delve into specifics. However, he emphasized that the script written by Sumit Roy was exceptional, possibly the best he had encountered thus far. “I believe it is my finest screenplay I’ve been offered, and I will produce it someday,” he concluded.
The film “Takht” was initially intended to depict the rivalry between brothers Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh over the Mughal throne. On February 1, 2020, a promotional video showcasing the throne was unveiled. Karan Johar, along with Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, were set to produce this project directed by Karan Johar.
This upcoming movie features actors like Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor. It’s set to hit theaters on December 24, 2021, which coincides with Christmas celebrations. For a while now, fans have been eagerly asking for the film’s return, so this announcement is sure to boost their anticipation even further.
Currently, Karan Johar has wrapped up his last directorial project, a 2023 romantic comedy titled Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the main characters. Next on his agenda is an action movie. Some of his forthcoming productions include Dhadak 2, Naagzilla, and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.
