As a huge fan of Leelee Sobieski‘s acting career back in the day, it’s been quite a surprise to see her disappear from Hollywood scene since 2012. Her journey from a child actress on sitcoms like “NewsRadio,” to landing significant roles in movies like “Deep Impact,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “Eyes Wide Shut,” was truly inspiring. I still remember her powerful portrayal of Joan of Arc in the CBS’s mini-series, which was supposed to be her big break.
Leelee Sobieski once shone brightly in Hollywood, beginning her journey in show business as a young actress and gracing our screens in sitcoms such as “NewsRadio.” She went on to secure notable roles in films like “Deep Impact” (as Sarah Hotchner), “Never Been Kissed,” and “Eyes Wide Shut,” among others. Her impressive resume promised great things, including a potential breakthrough role in “Joan of Arc” for CBS. However, her career took an unexpected turn in 2012. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t poor film choices like the Nicolas Cage-led “The Wicker Man” remake or “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale” that caused her departure from Hollywood. Instead, Leelee chose to focus on raising her two children and left the industry behind.
I’ve hung up my acting shoes for now. Instead, I’m a mom and an artist, helping my husband Adam Kimmel with his fashion design while pursuing my own painting career. You can find my art and the occasional selfie or video on Instagram under my married name. Fun fact: I come from an artistic family – my dad is both an artist and an actor, Jean Sobieski.
Leelee Sobieski currently isn’t active in Hollywood, but there’s a good chance she may make a comeback in the future.
Leelee Sobieski might come back to Hollywood when she’s older
After announcing her contented retirement from acting, Leelee Sobieski has accepted one role, featuring in “The Last Film Festival” (2016). Additionally, she has made appearances on several talk shows and podcasts post her departure from the acting industry.
I used to keep a low profile when it came to my resume, but things have changed lately. Nowadays, I’m regularly attending fashion events in New York City, gracing red carpets with my presence as recently as April. I’ve even been supporting my husband’s fashion work and other designers. It seems like I haven’t completely left Hollywood behind. Who knows? Maybe I’ll play the sweet grandma role someday. For now, though, I’m fully committed to being a mom and taking care of my kids. Whether or not I return to acting is uncertain, but I’m open to new opportunities. Time will only tell what the future holds for me in this industry.
