As a seasoned cinema enthusiast who’s seen more films than I care to count, I must say that Nina Bloomgarden has certainly caught my eye with her captivating performance in It’s What’s Inside. Her portrayal of Maya, the free-spirited Bohemian, is nothing short of mesmerizing. The film, a psychedelic journey into the human psyche, is reminiscent of a LSD-infused Woody Allen flick, and Bloomgarden holds her own against some heavyweight acting talent.
Nina Bloomgarden continues to rave about Anne Hathaway. The protagonist of What’s Inside, played the role of young Amber in Hathaway’s popular age-gap romantic comedy, The Idea of You. This production, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year, quickly became one of the most successful rom-com debuts. With Nicholas Galitzine also starring as a famous singer navigating an unforeseen romance with Hathaway’s character Solène, it’s no surprise that it garnered nearly 50 million viewers in its initial weeks.
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Bloomgarden openly shared some valuable lessons she picked up from working alongside Hathaway on set. She mentioned that due to filming commitments, she arrived late for our initial rehearsals for the movie “It’s What’s Inside“. Arriving directly from Georgia to Portland, she reflected that from Hathaway, she gleaned “the art of navigating a film set, maintaining composure, and commanding presence in a room or space.
Speaking about Anne Hathaway, she mentioned, “Anne embodies kindness,” further expressing that she strove to adopt those characteristics during the filming of ‘It’s What’s Inside’. She also noted that it’s crucial to “stay mindful of all the intricate details happening around you.
Playing a Free Spirit in It’s What’s Inside
In the recent Netflix rollercoaster ride titled “It’s What’s Inside,” I found myself immersed in the character of Maya, a free-spirited Bohemian, portrayed brilliantly by Nina Bloomgarden. At a pre-wedding gathering with friends, the atmosphere is initially light and joyful. However, the evening takes an unexpected turn when an old acquaintance shows up, carrying a peculiar suitcase containing a device capable of inducing body swaps. As we engage in this twisted game, we begin to unearth hidden secrets, simmering desires, and long-suppressed grievances within our group.
In this role, Bloomgarden from “The Resort” portrays Maya, a character embarking on a spiritual voyage. Desiring to rectify past mistakes, Maya attends the gathering with the purpose of breaking free from an old habit of engaging in relationships with married individuals.
Directed by Greg Jardin, this film quickly gained favor at Sundance due to its psychedelic atmosphere and numerous unexpected turns in the storyline. Starring David Thompson, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Reina Hardesty, and Devon Terrell, it’s now available for streaming on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
