What Rick Moranis Looks Like Today

As a longtime fan of Rick Moranis and his iconic roles in ’80s cinema, it’s both exciting and heartwarming to see him making appearances and living his life outside of the spotlight. Although he’s been mostly absent from the entertainment industry since the late ’90s, I’ve always held a soft spot for his quirky, lovable characters that brought joy and laughter to countless audiences.

In the 1980s, Rick Moranis was a go-to actor for portraying quirky and endearing characters. He graced the screens of numerous beloved comedies such as “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.” His absence from recent productions is due to his decision to prioritize family life after the passing of his wife, Ann Belsky. Although Moranis may not be as frequently seen today, his unique presence remains unmistakable when spotted in public.

The latest sighting of him was in a Mint Mobile ad from 2020 featuring him next to Ryan Reynolds, looking puzzled about his role in the commercial. Later on, around his 71st birthday, there were pictures circulated showing Moranis roaming New York City, still wearing his distinctive glasses. It was heartening for fans to see him alive and well, all the more so since he had been attacked in NYC just a year prior. Fortunately, the assailant was caught, and Reynolds added fuel to the notion that 2020 was an awful year for everyone with his characteristic wit.

Could Rick Moranis’ next project be a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel?

What Rick Moranis Looks Like Today

Rick Moranis has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since the release of “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves!” in 1997. Yet, he hasn’t completely retired from acting. He’s taken on roles, primarily voiceovers, such as in “Brother Bear” (2003). Moreover, he reappeared as Dark Helmet for an episode of “The Goldbergs,” but he tends to be selective about appearing in minor parts. Moranis declined a cameo in the 2016 “Ghostbusters” remake because it didn’t excite him. However, he remains open to new opportunities if the right project catches his interest.

In a seldom-granted interview in 2015, Moranis spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his potential return to acting. He mentioned that he receives occasional offers for film or TV roles and will consider doing one as soon as it sparks his interest. There were past discussions about Disney creating another “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” sequel, titled “Shrunk,” which aimed to bring Moranis back as Wayne Szalinski while Josh Gad was set to join in some way. However, in June 2023, Gad shared on social media that the production was close to beginning multiple times but faced obstacles such as COVID-19, scheduling conflicts, and budget issues.

Despite being undecided about his upcoming project with the film “Shrunk” on hold, Moranis appears content and in good health. What follows next is not essential information.
