As I delve into the fascinating lives of these talented actors gracing our screens in the much-anticipated series “House of the Dragon,” I can’t help but marvel at their diverse journeys. From Matt Smith, who embarked on his acting career as a Time Lord and now finds himself ruling over Westeros, to Fabien Frankel, who went from a single appearance in a Christmas movie to becoming a crucial figure in the Targaryen dynasty, each actor’s path is nothing short of intriguing.
As a game enthusiast immersed in the world of Westeros, I bid a provisional adieu to House of the Dragon on August 4, with Season 2 drawing to a close, and production for Season 3 not set to commence until early 2025. Yet, the stellar cast of this HBO series will continue to linger in my thoughts as we eagerly await more tales from the Seven Kingdoms.
Regardless if you were a fan of Team Black or Team Green, there are undoubtedly some characters from the popular series that you’ve grown to appreciate (or despise). It’s worth noting that while some actors portraying these characters gained their first significant role with the Game of Thrones spin-off, others had already established lengthy careers before joining the cast and making their roles now iconic.
A diverse cast, including Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best and others, who have previously appeared in a range of iconic series and films such as “Doctor Who”, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1”, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Crown”, have now joined forces to bring “House of the Dragon” to life in the mystical land of Westeros.
As a long-time fan of Game of Thrones, I found myself eagerly anticipating the arrival of House of the Dragon. Emma D’Arcy
Emma D’Arcy, who identifies with the pronouns they/them, brings to life the adult version of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen in “House of the Dragon.” Their acting journey kicked off in 2015 with a role in a short film titled “United Strong Alone,” and they later starred as the lead in the 2018 series “Wanderlust,” sharing screen time with Toni Collette, Steven Mackintosh, and Zawe Ashton. Olivia Cooke

Matt Smith
Before taking the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen, Matt Smith had already accumulated a considerable amount of acting experience under his belt. His big break came when he was chosen to play The Doctor on Doctor Who, a position he held from 2010 to 2014. Later, he appeared as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in The Crown between 2016 and 2017. Lately, Smith has been cast in movies like The Last Night in Soho, Morbius, and The Forgiven.
Fabien Frankel
As a gamer stepping into a fresh role, I was only known from five other projects before landing the part of Ser Criston Cole in House of the Dragon. Prior to that, I made recurring appearances, playing Dominique Renelleau in The Serpent. Additionally, I’ve had smaller roles in Last Christmas, NYPD Blue, An Uncandid Portrait, and Venice at Dawn. Eve Best
The actress, who plays Princess Rhaenys Targaryen in “House of the Dragon,” has been acting for nearly two decades now. She started with a guest role on “The Bill” back in 2000. Similar to Collett, Matthew Needham frequently appeared on Britain’s long-running series, Casualty, a medical drama. This talented actor has also made guest appearances in various shows such as Sherlock, Monroe, The Hollow Crown, Endeavor, Doctors, Chernobyl, Sanditon, Doctor Who, and Great Expectations. In addition, he played the role of Lucien Bonaparte in Ridley Scott’s 2023 production of Napoleon.
