As I delve deeper into the captivating lives of these remarkable individuals who graced our screens as characters in Lucifer, it becomes increasingly evident that their journeys extend far beyond the confines of the show.
Tom Welling, for instance, is not just the Clark Kent we all know from Smallville, but a versatile actor who continues to surprise us with his diverse roles and ventures. His collaboration with Michael Rosenbaum on ‘Talk Ville’ is a testament to their enduring bond, reminding us that even superheroes need a good chat over some old episodes every now and then!
Tricia Helfer, the enchanting Goddess of Lucifer, has an impressive resume that spans across multiple genres. Her portrayal of Dracula in Van Helsing was particularly captivating, showcasing her ability to embody both light and darkness with equal finesse.
Tom Welling’s choice to be selective with his roles post-Lucifer is a fascinating aspect of his career trajectory. It’s as if he’s saying, “Even the Man of Steel needs a break now and then!”
Lastly, let’s not forget the inimitable Tom Ellis, our devilish Lucifer Morningstar. His journey from the UK to Hollywood and his transformation into the charming Prince of Darkness has been nothing short of extraordinary. I can’t help but wonder if he ever finds himself tempted to use his powers to dodge a particularly tricky LA traffic jam!
In the grand scheme of things, it seems that life after Lucifer is just another chapter in their already impressive careers, filled with new challenges, roles, and adventures. And for us fans, it’s an exciting time as we continue to witness their growth and evolution!
In the popular TV series “Lucifer,” the character Lucifer Morningstar, who is actually the Devil, takes a break from his responsibilities in Hell and heads to Los Angeles for a change of pace. There, he crosses paths with Chloe Decker, a detective with the LAPD, and begins advising on cases as a civilian consultant. What he doesn’t expect is to find enjoyment in the work and develop feelings for Chloe. As a result, Lucifer encounters numerous new individuals, both personally and professionally, and so does Chloe. The main characters of “Lucifer” include Chloe, her ex-husband Dan, Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel, Chloe’s daughter Trixie, and Lucifer’s psychiatrist Linda. They are all portrayed by talented actors, forming a diverse group of friends, colleagues, and family members for the characters to interact with.
For the initial three seasons (from 2016 to 2018), the series titled “Lucifer” graced Fox’s screens, but when it was cancelled, it found a new home on Netflix and continued for another three seasons, spanning from 2019 to 2021. Now that you’re curious about where else the “Lucifer” cast has appeared and what they’ve been up to since the show wrapped up, let me tell you! In just a few short years, several of them have landed intriguing roles in fresh projects. On the other hand, some have opted for a well-deserved rest following “Lucifer,” taking advantage of a break from the demanding world of show business. Keep reading to discover more about their new adventures!
Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar)
Tom Ellis portrayed the lead character in “Lucifer,” a fallen angel tasked with managing Hell. However, Ellis doesn’t depict Lucifer as malevolent. Instead, he exudes an irresistible charisma that attracts both males and females. His most potent ability lies in coaxing truth from individuals, revealing their hidden, troubling secrets. It’s evident that Ellis relished the role and delivered it with enthusiasm, capturing Lucifer’s joy for living as well as his quest for self-understanding.
Following the conclusion of Lucifer, Tom Ellis has largely stayed out of the spotlight. His portrayal of Lucifer, which was inspired by a character from Neil Gaiman’s renowned comic book “The Sandman,” was re-cast when an adaptation of “The Sandman” premiered on Netflix, as the Lucifer character had evolved significantly. Moreover, Ellis mentioned during an interview on Reign with Josh Smith that he wished to take a few years off to spend time with his three daughters after the challenges of filming Lucifer in America and their upbringing in the U.K., particularly during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Currently, as of 2024, he’s resumed his acting career and has quite a few projects lined up. His return to acting started with the Netflix romantic comedy “Players,” where he portrays Nick, a character who Gina Rodriguez’s character develops feelings for. Additionally, he stars as Oliver in the second season of the Hulu series “Tell Me Lies.” This show is created by his spouse, Meagan Oppenheimer. Moreover, he intends to star in her upcoming dark comedy “Second Wife,” a story about a married couple who discover they barely know each other.
Moreover, Ellis is set to join forces with Ernest Kingsley Jr. (“The Sandman”) and Sterling K. Brown (“This is Us”) in the miniseries “Washington Black,” adapted from Esi Edugyan’s novel. In this production, Ellis takes on the character of Christopher “Titch” Wilde, an inventor and abolitionist who develops a friendship with Wash and assists him in escaping from the plantation. Additionally, Ellis lends his voice to the Netflix series “Exploding Kittens,” where he plays God in the form of a cat (Godcat). This role is quite different from his previous portrayal of Lucifer, as Godcat engages in a fierce struggle with Devilcat for control over Earth.
Lauren German (Chloe Decker)
Prior to her role as the Devil’s love interest in “Lucifer,” Lauren German had already established herself as a busy actor. She began her career with guest roles on shows like “7th Heaven” and appeared in films such as “A Walk to Remember” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” In 2007, she took on a lead role in “Hostel: Part II,” and by 2011, she had made a significant impact on television with her portrayal of Lori Weston, a Secret Service agent, in the CBS remake of the hit series “Hawaii Five-O.” German later starred as Leslie Shay in “Chicago Fire” and made guest appearances on its sister show, “Chicago P.D.
As a devoted fan of “Lucifer,” I have been captivated by German’s portrayal of Detective Chloe Decker for six seasons. Her character’s journey from skeptic to lover of Lucifer was both intriguing and well-acted. However, it seems that since the show ended, German has taken a break from acting, focusing instead on her art.
I admire her decision to prioritize her passion for art, as I believe that pursuing one’s interests is crucial in life. Her collaboration with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to sell her artwork on t-shirts to support the Expressive Arts and Therapies Program is truly commendable, showcasing her dedication to giving back to her community.
I eagerly await news of when she might return to acting, but for now, I am content to appreciate her talent as an artist and hope that she continues to find success in all her endeavors.
Kevin Alejandro (Dan Espinoza)
Prior to portraying Dan Espinoza/Detective Douche on “Lucifer,” Kevin Alejandro had already made a name for himself with various significant roles. He played Detective Nate Moretta in “Southland” from 2009 to 2011 and Jesus Velasquez on “True Blood” from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, he appeared as Sebastian Blood across the second season of “Arrow” from 2013 to 2014. However, Dan Espinoza on “Lucifer” has been his longest-running role. Initially an antagonist towards Lucifer, their relationship evolved as he came to love him. Furthermore, he also took on the role of director for several episodes in later seasons of the show and continues to do so today.
Since wrapping up “Lucifer”, Kevin Alejandro has been quite busy. He’s currently starring in the CBS TV series “Fire Country” as Captain Manny Perez, a role he’s taken on since 2022. This series features firefighters who are convicts, and in exchange for their service, they receive shorter prison sentences. In addition to this, he lends his voice to the Netflix series “Arcane”, portraying Jayce Talis. Interestingly, Alejandro took on this role because his son is a fan of the game “League of Legends”, which “Arcane” is based upon. Furthermore, he’s been expanding his directorial skills, having directed several episodes of “Fire Country” and one episode of the Disney+ show “National Treasure: Edge of History”.
D.B. Woodside (Amenadiel)
Have you ever pondered over the striking resemblance of Amenadiel from “Lucifer”? That’s because the actor who brings him to life, D.B. Woodside, has graced many popular TV shows in the past. Throughout the series, he embodied the character of Amenadiel. Initially, as Lucifer’s older brother and God’s favorite son, Amenadiel presents himself as an adversary to the Devil, pushing for his return to Hell. However, a change of heart occurs, leading him to become a staunch ally of Lucifer and an admirer of humanity. His affection for humanity reaches such heights that he even has a child with Lucifer’s psychiatrist, Linda Martin, played by Rachael Harris. Yet, Woodside’s impressive acting resume was already well-established before his portrayal of Amenadiel.
In 1996, he kicked off his acting journey as a prominent character in the second series of “Murder One”. Later, in the final season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, he portrayed Principal Robin Wood, who made a lasting impression by courting Buffy and Faith. Following this, from 2003 to 2007, he appeared as Wayne Palmer, the tragic brother of David Palmer, played by Dennis Haysbert, in the TV series “24”. Subsequently, from Season 4 to Season 7, and also in its spinoff “Pearson”, he took on the role of Jeff Malone in the show “Suits”.
He collaborated with Haysbert once more in the show “Lucifer,” but this time they portrayed a father-son duo; Haysbert took on the role of God during the series’ fifth season. Following the conclusion of “Lucifer” after its sixth season, Woodside assumed the character of Erik Monks in Netflix’s 2023 series, “The Night Agent.” Unfortunately, his character won’t reappear in “The Night Agent” Season 2 due to the storyline. However, he also appeared in a nine-episode arc in Seasons 4 and 5 of the series “9-1-1: Lone Star,” from 2023 to 2024.
Lesley-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen)
Actress Lesley-Ann Brandt transformed her character Mazikeen from a heartless demon indifferent to others on “Lucifer,” into a team member, soul seeker, and wife to Inbar Lavi’s Eve. This was quite an evolution for both Maze and Brandt. Prior to playing Maze, Brandt was primarily recognized for her role as Naevia in the Starz series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” and its prequel miniseries “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.
After finding significant success with her role in “Lucifer”, she continued her career in Hollywood, taking on roles such as the voice of Liza Barrel in Netflix’s “Captain Fall” and Pearl Thorne in AMC’s “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”. Notably, her accent in “The Ones Who Live” deviates slightly from her real-life accent but remains genuinely South African, a rarity in modern television. She shared with TV Line that the character was initially French, and she proposed offering a South African or Kiwi accent instead. To her delight, they agreed, finding the South African accent appealing.
Besides her busy schedule, Brandt is equally involved with the upcoming TV series titled “Hanover Street.” Not only does she act in it, but she’s also a producer. This drama holds a special place in Brandt’s heart as it’s set in District Six of Cape Town, a vibrant community that bravely opposed the apartheid regime. In 1966, District Six was declared off-limits for people of color, and its residents were cruelly evicted from their homes. Brandt shared with Deadline that while the brutality of apartheid has been portrayed on screen before, “Hanover Street” will emphasize the unity and resilience that the community displayed in the face of oppression, focusing more on their shared joy during difficult times.
Rachael Harris (Linda Martin)
On television, Rachael Harris made a significant impact when “Lucifer” debuted in 2016, due to her extensive and diverse background in the industry, particularly in comedy. Throughout her career, she has guest-starred on numerous shows like “Friends,” “Pushing Daisies,” “New Girl,” “The Office,” and many others. Her television appearances also include several episodes of “Reno 911!” and a regular role in the sitcom “Notes from the Underbelly.”
In film, Harris has also left an impressive mark. She played Ed Helms’ controlling fiancée in the hit comedy “The Hangover” (2009), Susan Heffley, the main character’s mother in “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and its sequel, and appeared as Sheila Sazs in 28 episodes of “Suits” from Season 2 in 2012 to Season 9 in 2019.
As a gamer, I hadn’t taken on the role of the psychiatrist for the Devil himself before landing Lucifer, but that all changed when Dr. Linda Martin stepped into the picture. It was another significant character for me, as my role became a vital part of Lucifer’s inner circle. Since Lucifer wrapped up, I’ve been diving back into acting in various projects – from portraying Sam’s mother Sheryl in the comedy “Ghosts” to embodying Dean Miller in “Sex Lives of College Girls.” In 2023 and 2024, I joined the main cast of Disney+’s Goosebumps series, where I play Nora Parker – a café waitress and Lucas’ mother.
Aimee Garcia (Ella Lopez)
Beginning with Season 2 of “Lucifer,” Aimee Garcia assumed the role of Ella Lopez, and her distinctive portrayal of the character, making her both intelligent yet vulnerable, resonated strongly with viewers, earning her a popular favorite status. Prior to entering Lucifer’s world, Garcia had substantial roles in television shows like ABC’s “George Lopez,” where she played Veronica Palmero, and Showtime’s “Dexter,” portraying Jamie Batista, the nanny to Dexter’s son.
Ever since Lucifer wrapped up, I’ve found myself immersed in a whirlwind of creative projects! Last year alone, I had the pleasure of appearing in the Netflix Christmas movie “Christmas With You” as a charismatic pop star who finds herself smitten by Freddie Prinze Jr.’s small-town piano teacher. Additionally, I’ve been gracing the screens on Hulu’s series “Woke” with my presence.
I also lent my voice to Alex Gonzalez in Hulu’s animated series “Dragons: The Nine Realms,” and starred in two Hallmark movies: “The Cases of Mystery Lane” and its sequel, “The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death Is Listening.” It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I can’t wait to share more of my adventures with you all!
It’s worth noting that Garcia has taken up writing. She collaborated on three comic books with ex-wrestler AJ Mendez, starting before the conclusion of Lucifer. These include “GLOW vs. The Babyface” from 2020 and “Dungeons & Dragons: At the Spine of the World” in 2021. In 2024, they published an independent comic titled “Day of the Dead Girl.” Discussing the project with ComicBook.com, Garcia explained their approach: “We share a dark, humorous perspective that encompasses witches, Brujas, the supernatural, serial killers, magic, and death. Given our shared love for these genres, we decided to create something that combines all these elements.
Scarlett Estevez (Trixie Espinoza)
Scarlett Estevez is relatively young, yet boasts an impressive acting resume. Prior to turning 10, she played Megan in both “Daddy’s Home” and its sequel alongside Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Following that, she made appearances in 76 episodes of “Lucifer,” portraying Trixie, the daughter of Chloe and Dan. Although Lucifer initially struggled to handle Trixie, her endearing approach to life eventually won him over. In fact, Trixie even expressed a wish to become the first President of Mars.
Scarlett was less present during the final season of the show because she secured a part in the 2022 Disney Channel series “Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion,” playing Violet, a young girl grappling with her superhero duties. Since “Lucifer” concluded, Scarlett has additionally lent her voice to the film “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and television shows “Dew Drop Diaries” and “The Loud House.” It’s clear that she’ll accumulate numerous credits in the future.
Tricia Helfer (Charlotte Richards/Goddess)
In the series “Lucifer,” Canadian actress Tricia Helfer assumed the roles of both the deity and the human she possessed, Charlotte Richards. A complex character who yearned for redemption, she was predominantly featured in Seasons 2 and 3, but made short-lived comebacks in Seasons 5 and 6. However, her casting as both the Goddess and Charlotte proved to be a shrewd decision, given her previous experience playing multiple characters convincingly, which she demonstrated while portraying Six in various forms during the critically-acclaimed revamp of “Battlestar Galactica.
After wrapping up her significant roles as both Goddess and Charlotte on “Lucifer” by 2018, she seized the opportunity to explore new characters. Following her stint on “Lucifer”, she delivered an impressive performance as Dracula in the series “Van Helsing”. In this role, she portrayed dual personas – The Dark One and their human vessel Olivia in flashbacks, allowing her to juxtapose Dracula’s cruelty with Olivia’s love. Moreover, in 2022, she starred as Erin Baxter in the third season of “Step Up: High Water”. She also has several upcoming films lined up, such as “Hello Beautiful”, “Primitive War”, and “Occupation Rainfall: Chapter 2.”
Tom Welling (Marcus Pierce/Cain)
Tom Welling is recognized as one of the most prominent figures on this list, yet not due to his work in “Lucifer.” Instead, it’s for his 10-season stint portraying Clark Kent on the TV series “Smallville,” which he reprised in 2019 during the Arrowverse crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” However, while “Smallville” is generally more recognized than his role as Marcus Pierce/Cain on Lucifer, for some fans, the latter is equally cherished, partly because Welling’s characters in these two series are distinct. In “Smallville,” he portrayed the golden boy version of Superman as he matures; conversely, on “Lucifer,” he plays Cain, a malevolent character who has been murdering people since time immemorial, starting with his brother Abel, of course.
After his role in Lucifer ended in 2017, he has become selective about his acting projects, leading some to wonder why Hollywood isn’t casting him as often. However, he hasn’t retired from the spotlight entirely. In 2022, he executive produced and starred in a 10-episode series called “Professionals,” and appeared in three episodes of “The Winchesters” as Samuel Campbell, the grandfather of Sam and Dean. Additionally, he’s venturing into podcast production.
As someone who has spent decades immersed in the world of acting, I can say with confidence that revisiting past projects, like my upcoming podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, is always a delightful journey down memory lane. The passage of time often distorts our memories, making us remember only the good times and the positive experiences. This podcast, titled “Talk Ville,” where we watch episodes of Smallville and share behind-the-scenes stories, has been a fantastic opportunity to reminisce about my time on that iconic show.
The fact that so much time has elapsed since then makes it even more enjoyable. The memories have become fond recollections, softened by the passage of years and tinted with a rosy glow. It’s not just about reliving old moments; it’s about sharing them, laughing about them, and appreciating the friendships that were forged during those times.
In addition to this podcast, I had the pleasure of appearing in two films in 2024: “Mafia Wars,” an action-packed adventure, and “Clear Cut,” a gripping thriller alongside Clive Standen and Alec Baldwin. These roles allowed me to flex my acting muscles in new and exciting ways, and I’m grateful for the experiences they provided.
Revisiting past work and embarking on new projects is a testament to the enduring nature of our passion as artists. It allows us to grow, learn, and share our craft with audiences who continue to support us. I look forward to sharing more stories from my life in the world of entertainment and hope you’ll join me for this exciting journey.
